I just got back home from a live concert of Hibernation, and for once more i thought "they're so fucking mind-blowing". The crowd was going nuts for over 40 minutes and the sing-along thing was present in every single one lyric part. So true, so passionate, they gave me the impression that they live to play gigs. That it's their whole life... Trully great.
energetic, fast, sweat, all in one. Even, when two guys grabbed alex's mic to do all the vocal duties the band (and especially yanna) seemed to be ammused... Hope that more bands would emulate them...
I decided to post all of their releases (two seveninches and a full-lenght lp) 'cos i can't choose the best one, all of their releases are up to 10 and you have to check them out, if you are not already into it...
After the disband of Haotiko telos (Chaotic end) (one of the best dark hardcore bands of all time in greece and "fathers" of the dark crust genre that after years came as a trend in greece), alex (their main lyric / song writter) creates this band. The first ep has been released in 1998 and the line-up consisted by alex : guitar, vocals (that is the only member from the first line up, also from Ksehasmeni profiteia (forgotten prophecy)), savvas : guitar (later on anatellon tromos (rising terror)) and two guys (from nekriki sigi (deadly silence) on bass and drums. The sound is heavy and doomy hardcore, and is clear that the band continues what chaotic end left behind...
The second ep (monaksia (loneliness)) has been released in 2000, and some serious member-changes have been occured (only alex stayed to be more specific) and behind the drumkit - from then till now - sits yanna (formerly of pyrinikos heimonas (nuclear winter)), and the bass goes to : a lot of people... Hehe...
Heavy as hell with a better production, yanna's vocals is - still - my favourite female vocals of all time and the song "metropolis of glass" maybe is already a classic... The keyboard samples works just fine for the whole production and gives a more claustrophobic atmosphere while the drum hitting makes you wanna hit your head on a wall...
Last but not least, the lp released somewhere between 2003-2004 and stands it's own large footprint in the european crust scene... Gloomy, melodic with terrifying samples that adds an unpleasant and dystopic scene in the whole thing, alongside the awesome "alex's riffs" (i say it as a term - alex's riffs rips). 10 in your face crust hymns with beautiful (but pessimistic lyrics) with social-political-enverimental themes... I don't know what else to say. One of my all-time favourites, a band that still keep on going, with a steady line-up nowadays with meletis on bass (also from straighthate) and haris on second guitar (formerly of sarabande)...Alex and yanna have also two children.
Also, go here and click to hibernation to see some of the bands lyrics.
Thanx to the blogs that some of their links has been used here, such as :
crust-demos, crustcracker, 7inchcrust and tapes gone loose
the band currently working on new songs, to be released someday in the future as an lp... i can't wait...

This is what I wrote just yesterday:
"listening to Hibernation - Into The Silence Of Eternal Sorrow. I'm always stoked about how great this album is!". What a coincidence ha? hehe
Awesome band and great to see live but it's been a few years since I've seen them play. How were the other bands? Never heard either of them.
tsampa mpyra was the usual boring katsapunk and against all odds was old school american hardcore like warzone and the rest, not my cup of tea but good enough, as for hibernation... total fucking destruction!
how are you by the way?
i think they have a second guitar now(one of Sarabante guys)

Oh and I'm fine, thanks for asking mikxxx. The past few days I've been drinking lots of coffee, working on the new version of fanzines.gr and watch the snow fall outside. I should drag myself out and go to a show or something though...
