Speaking about good crust bands, i've totally forgotten this cd-r (2004 release) masterpiece. Hailing from Kastoria, greece this quartet visualizes how should TRAGEDY sound if they had moved somewhere in greek province instead of portland. The rest comes from salonika's black jaw, d. :

Οι Έρημος είναι, κατά τη γνώμη μου, μια από τις πολύ καλές ελληνικές μπάντες των τελευταίων χρόνων. Επηρεασμένοι κυρίως από την ελληνική σκηνή των αρχών τις δεκαετίας του '90, οι Έρημος (πολύ ταιριαστό όνομα) κατάφεραν να δημιουργήσουν έναν ήχο δικό τους και κάπως μοναδικό για τα ελληνικά δεδομένα. Η σκοτεινή τους ατμόσφαιρα γεμάτη με αίσθημα μελαγχολίας και απογοήτευσης είναι το κύριο χαρακτηριστικό της Κοιλάδας Της Μοναξιάς (ο τίτλος μιλάει από μόνος του). Όλο αυτό φαίνεται παντού μες στον δίσκο, από τη μουσική και τους στίχους ταυτόχρονα. Σκοτεινές μελωδίες, γρήγορο drumming, δυνατά διπλά φωνητικά και στίχοι πολύ προσωπικοί/κοινωνικοί,με τους οποίους μπορούν να ταυτιστούν λίγο-πολύ αρκετοί από εμάς. Κομμάτια που πραγματικά κόβουν σαν λεπίδια, σε γονατίζουν, αλλά την ίδια στιγμή σε καλούν στη μάχη ενάντια στη μιζέρια του σήμερα. Αυτή είναι η μοναδική τους κυκλοφορία (μαζί με το demo Γερασμένη Πόλη), ενώ αργότερα κάποια από τα μέλη τους δημιούργησαν τους Επιθανάτιος Ρόγχος και πήγαν όλον αυτόν τον ήχο ένα βήμα παραπέρα.

Bombenalarm - tape & 7''

Once upon a time, i used to love german hardcore punk, and still i do. Some bands where fucking brilliant, that's for sure and as i can recall Bombenalarm was the blast. The knife-fighter, the small kid with the shiny eyes, the one that you can't think of ripping you off and he sure do, he always rip you off. If Monster put me back to the game, Burial gave me the shouts to the world and The Now-Denial made me to sing along and copy the front-man grooves in front of my mirror, then Bombenalarm made my life worth to live for. Songs like "Black hope", "Worth nothing" and "Another cheap excuse" although are painted in the most bitter and dark colors, i feel that they are trying to say "You have nothing to lose in this world, so fight for a change".

Shapesifter records (reach them through this mail : shapeshifter57@hotmail.com) from Mexico released the band's first demo and the "Destination : Fucked up" 7'' as a digipack cd (pic above) with great sound. Mountza store gave me this brilliant release for free and i have to thank them. I ripped the cd in 256kbp. The sound is perfect, the songs are brilliant, a bit more fast than the later releases. the vocals is the highlight as much as Fabian's crazy drumming. Suit yourselves lads.

Two years ago, I’ve made a post aboutDown in flames. I think it's time to write about this band again.Down in Flames was a hardcore punk band from New Jersey that havereleased some of my favorite hardcore tunes. Blistering, mean andpowerful short tracks with yelling vocals from four kids, i meankids. Checking some photos from the band's live appearances i sawthat these guys must have been in high-school when their first 7''released.

Last two days, i can't stop listening to that fast US hardcorefrom the late '90s / early 00's. Deathreat, Tear it up, Sleeper cell (i uploadeda new rip - check here),a lot of Out Cold (once more), Last in line and the likes. And then ijust saw that someone created a bandcamp for Down in Flames andthought "fuck yes, I’ll do a new post". I still remember thefirst time i gave a spin to the self titled LP and I was sounprepared for what i was listening to. Heavy, in your face,sometimes like screaming at a wall. So energetic that i couldn't dealwith it. Still today this is one of my favorite hardcore records(check for example "waging a war"). So, i uploaded theirwhole discography again, on 320kbp rip this time and started to mosh myhouse's walls. Here we have 37 tracks of ultimate negativity. Nochildhood, no happy family, no good friends and aunts with greatgifts and sunshine holding your beloved girl's hand. No, this is notMy Turn. This is DOWN IN FLAMES. Lyrics are bitter and sound like thesoundtrack of a ruined life in my ears. If you're into fast pumpingnon-stopping hardcore ejaculation and you like bands like DieKreuzen, The Gate Crashers, Hero dishonest, Think i care, Life'sHalt, What happens next?, Career Suicide and you don't know these bastards, you have to pay some attention. The band have releasedrecords with labels such as Broken Glass records, 625 thrashcore,Coalition records and Gloom records. Some of the band's members havebeen involved with THE RITES (i think) and Another social disease.

Ramlord & Condensed Flesh - split tape

I just got this amazing split tape by mail. Colin from Stimulation addict records sent me the link from this beast and i was totally sick. Here we have two new amazing bands from New Hampshire that totally kick blackened asses.

Ramlord (that rips Battle of Disarm's logo - and you can't go wrong with that) offers a heavy blend of the usual old-school crust alongside sludgy parts that go away only for more brutal assaults. I really love the vocals, well done to the singer. Somewhere i read that they are like Artimus Pyle. I'll agree but they are more into slow-fast part changes.
On the other hand we have Condensed Flesh, a more bleak representation of sludgy crust, the one with the blackened garnish. Their side is one track and is a live recording, but it sounds good. They have also great screaming vocals (they eat nails for breakfast), the usual proto-blackmetal sounding and axes instead of guitars. This split shreds and you should give it a try and if you like it buy it through Colin (see link above). And as Ramlord says : "Smoke weed // Kill Cops".

Σίγουρα, δε θαμπορούσα να είμαι αντικειμενικός γιαένα συγκρότημα του οποίου τα μέλη είναιόλοι φίλοι μου. Άνθρωποι για τους οποίουςτρέφω απεριόριστο σεβασμό, με τουςοποίους έχω οργανώσει συναυλίες καιόχι μόνο, άρα η κριτική μου δεν μπορείσε καμιά περίπτωση να ειδωθει ωςαντικειμενική.

Οι AvgrundLivet (σημαίνει νομίζω “Χαμένοι στηνΆβυσσο”) προέρχονται απτήν αθηνα καιήταν ενεργοί για αρκετά χρόνια, αν και,αν δεν κάνω λάθος δε πρέπει να έπαιξανπάνω από 5-6 συναυλίες στα χρόνια πουυπήρξαν ενεργοί. Αποτελούνταν απόδιάφορους γυρολόγους της ελληνικής“Καν'το μόνος σου” σκηνής. Ο Δ και ο Τέπαιζαν στους Reality Bites καιαργότερα στους Ατοπία, ο Β (ή αλλιώςD-Bill) στους Antimobκαι schwartz and anger, ο Χστους Antimob και ο Μπ στουςKalazaar καιJagernaut μεταξύ άλλων.

Συγκρότημαδημιουργημένο κυρίως μέσω της παλιάςσυναυλιακής της Villa Amalias Απόάτομα που ασχολούνταν (άλλοι περισσότεροκαι άλλοι λιγότερο) με τα μουσικά δρώμενατης εποχής. Πρόβα με τη πρόβα στο ανήλιομουχλιασμένο υπόγειο (ας το πούμεπροβαδικο) δημιουργήθηκε αυτό το βαρύκαι ασήκωτο γκριζωπό Caterpillarπου λίγοι καταφέραμε να απολαύσουμε.Αλλά για να κατανοήσουμε το μέγεθος τηςσπουδαιότητας του εν λόγω συγκροτήματοςπρέπει να κοιτάξουμε καλά το περιβάλλονστο οποίο ανδρώθηκε.

Είναι η εποχήπου δεν έχει καταλαγιάσει ακόμα ο θόρυβοςγύρω απτό επικό Vengeance τωνTragedy, τα σημάδια είναιακόμα νωπά απτά μεγαλειώδη liveμε crust μεγαθήρια πουήρθαν απτό εξωτερικό. Χαρακτηριστικόπαράδειγμα ότι μετά τις συναυλίες τωνJeniger και The Dagdaμεγάλο κομμάτι των πανκς ήθελε νασχηματίσει συγκροτήματα τέτοιου ύφους.Προσθέτοντας και τους μεγαλειώδηςδίσκους που κυκλοφορήσαν τότε οι Isisκαι Neurosis μπορούμε νακαταλάβουμε τις καταβολές του group.Μεγαλειώδες σε στιγμές, βασανιστικόcrust hardcore με μικρές postπινελιές. Μελωδικάriffs που συνθλίβονται απόασταμάτητα blast-beats καιφωνές από τα τάρταρα. Κομμάτια γραμμέναγια “όλες τις καμένες εκκλησιές” απόφοιτητές της θεολογικής σχολής. Ναπροσθέσω πως οι Avgrund Livet ήτανίσως η πιο δυνατή μπάντα που έχω δει εγώμαζί με τους Schwartz and anger επίσκηνής. Χαρακτηριστική η “κόντρα” τωνδυο, όταν οι Schwartz διασκεύαζανΠρωτοψάλτη και “πάμε χαβαυ” οι Avgrundπαίζανε διασκευή Χάσμα 5 φόρες πιογρήγορα με blast-beat καιουρλιαχτά. Ακόμα θυμάμαι το liveμε τους Ballast (Canada) καιτο πόσο εξουθενωμένος ένοιωθα με ένασυναίσθημα ασφυξίας να διαπερνά τηνσπονδυλική μου στήλη. Ballastwho?

Δυστυχώς, δενκατάφεραν να κυκλοφορήσουν τίποτα καιαυτή η πρόβα απτό μακρινό 2006 είναι τομοναδικό πειστήριο μιας ακόμα καταπληκτικήςμπάντας που κλειδώθηκε για πάντα στοχρονοντούλαπο της ιστορίας.

Straight to the point. Nomood means time for Discharge. As I was net surfing I saw somebloggers comments and I had a silly smile on my face because it'sthings i've always thought about Discharge. So, the dialogue isbetween Aesop, the cosmic keeper, and the Wizard, the cassetteripper. Enjoy.

now, here you get Discharge's second ep, "Fight Back" from 1980 released on Clay records. I have to take Aesop's side cause i think discharge albums are way more interesting than the ultimate metal boneheads that came back to punk with labels as Earache with money as their aim (this is what i think, i may be wrong). No chance bands as Raw Noise, Disgust or Death Dealers toget on the scales with Discharge. And if anyone tell to me again that only the first two albums are good, i'll say "all the hipsters say so...".

Abolition - jesus was a fucking dick 7''

Every christmass the same old shit. Churches, priests, stupid preying idiots, politicians and the great (any-)nation history (that turns out a nationalist story). Pictures on the news everytime it's the same. People on their consuming drugs, buying and buying, and now with their social state benefits chopped-off by the same bastard bosses they vote in the first place. Is this a drama? Sure it is.

Religion is a fraud as Disrupt use to say. How ignorant is the fact that you believe in something that you can not even see. Jesus saves? Yes, for sure...

By the way, this blog turns out three years old. Three years ofhigh-octane hardcore / punk, three years with some good posts, some really badand also mean posts (reflections of my inner state, dare I say), three years ofmeeting new people, of love and also of despair... Three years of the greatestof hope turned to ashes... We are strong and we're struglling for our future.

Now, you may know the band Abolition. Their 7'' “Jesus is a fucking Dick” I think is the most hilarious way to sing along all together “fuck-off” to all of those scums that rule our lives and suck us dry (check their great lyrics on the track “Sadistic soldiers of the Lord”). This is old-school hardcore / punk the european way. Bad recording (more likely like a rehearsal demo), clear bass lines and male/female vocals more shouting than crawling. Take some influences Infest, No comment, Yuppicide, Neaderdal and the rest fast hardcore powerhouses. This is great euro-hardcore with political lyrics and a 16 booklet with explanations and guess what : scans included here. The individuals behind the band were fucking active with releases of fanzines (Amok/Confronation zine) and a small label called Equality records. Later, they changed their name into STACK. this defenetily a ripping record, back from the day that heart meant more than plastic production and masterings....

Wish we have a good new year, but I can't see it coming...take care

Stockpile - 7''

Ok, this is the second best 7'' (released by Destroy me records) i listened of lately, after the Raw nerves "burnt skin" 7''. Stockpile comes from Philadelphia featuring current and former members of WITCH HUNT, STATIONS, AURYN, HYPATIA... Stockpile is the greatest mix of the usual portland sound along the swedish d-beat. If you like the copy-paste type-of zines of the 80's, this band could easily be on the top-10 of your 2012 list but with more modern sound, produced by Brad Boatright (Check also Sarabante's first full length), he made a terrific work.

This is brutal hardcore, for guys like d-bill or/and bak, for guys that like their coffee without milk, but with old-school d-beat. If you like Warcry's "Not so distant future" with heavy vocals (The vocals are rad and could take any of the Youth Attack kids out), heavy bass-lines and catchy drum changes this is a hell of a record...Influenced by the 80's anarcho-punk bands, but more in the "i-kill-you-motherfucker" style...rip it...

Against Empire - Thieves and Leeches

Some months ago, i've made a post about Dogsholylife and their forthcoming euro-tour. The band came through greece and was a blast. Very nice guys, open-minded and alcoholics as hell. Two members of dogs also plays for Against Empire, Matt and Dylan delivering the goods for both bands and they truly do a great "job" and julien the drummer runs Threat to Existence records. This is their new lp on Profane Existence records (a very good release for the label after long time).

So, for those who are familiar with their heavy crust days of the "destructive system collapse" 7'' and the "one who bear the scars..." Lp i have to say that the band have made an impressive improvemnet on their sound. Their tracks are sharper and faster with double shouting vocals. I can say they made a step closer to anarcho-punk/crust not only by lyrics (they were a political aware band in the past also) but mainly by the tracks "construction", something like Born/Dead, Aus-Rotten or even the fast tracks of Dogsholylife and as jarred (dogs drummer) told me :"the more the guys play with dogs, the more influence gets to Against empire" and that's true. Seven amazing tracks for headbangers hard and die-hard pogo wolves plus a great CRUCIFIX cover. The rip is taken from Up the fuckin punx blog. Cheers.

Chokehold - 1995 - Content with dying

Is that really anything to be spoken about this album? Low-tuned, heavy-weight, straight edge and fucking political. This canadian band have been one of the most influential of all time in the hardcore scene with their anti-religious, anti-homophobic and alimal/earth liberation lyrics. If you don't know them please check them out and if you do know them pay respect (a. i'm waiting a review of Trial's "are these our lives").

"They have us fooled reaching for the amerikkkan dream. Trapped in the 9-5 its like swimming upstream. Do as they tell you forethought is bound to fail. We are dying and no one seems to care. Members went on to play in such bands as The Swarm, Brutal Knights, Left for Dead, Haymaker, Our War and Seventy-Eight Days.

Terrible feelings - death to everyone (2011)

This is my latest obsession. Terrible feelings comes from Malmo, Sweden and delivers the catchiest punk rock i have heard in ages. I can imagine that they have been in numerous other bands but i don't have a clue. If you see a crustie with lots of patches of Framtid and Death Dust Extcractor and a girl in a Repulsion sweater talking on their new favourite band (it happened to me and a fellow hipster friend in a gig some days ago), then you know this worth a listening.

The guy from Tadpole records hooked up with this from a youtube track and i can't get enough lately. This band creates so beautiful environments, a psych feeling of loss and defeat played with no distorted guitars and nice rolling drums. The songs could be described as a mix of modern punk rock with power pop. They remind me all the female fronted bands that wrote history in the underground hardcore scene but i think they're gonna be bigger. Masshysteri and Gorilla angreb comes to my mind flerting in a bar full of smoke with The Wipers and The Enstranged. "Death to everyone" is the Japanese release of the two 7'' ("tied up" & "impending doom") and the first demo with better sound quality, released from donuts pop records.The song "Hollow" have THE lyrics : "I punish people round me, i know they care for me". Dark, vein-cutting and punk!

Ωμή βία και τα μυαλά στα κάγκελα. Η Ropes είναι η καταλληλότερη μουσική επένδυση αν

Ωμό (όπως προαναφέρθηκε) χάρντκορ πάνκ και αβαβάκα. Η demo κασσέτα είναι τόσο μονολιθική, που οποιαδήποτε προσπάθεια να μπεί έξτρα επιθετικός προσδιορισμός σε αυτό το κείμενο φαντάζει τέρμα "φρουφρού και αρώματα"...

5 τραγούδια σε αυτήν την κασσέτα, έξι λεπτά με το ζόρι, και αυτό θα είναι το σάουντ-τρακ της ζωούλας σας. Μηδέν εις το πηλίκο άρα.

I have madethis post a long time ago, but the rip (especially the b-side) was a crap, so mygood friend 7inchcrust gave me a trulyhelpful hand with the rip of this LP. He ripped the b-side of his own copy andcut the tracks. So, finally this rip is good (not soooooo clean - the a side, the rip is mine. don't be angry mr.7inch) and you canuse it at your favourite dj parties when you want to play tracks like "thefall" in a quality better than the 128kbps. So, from the past come thestorms :

Arnitiki stasi (Negativestance) was one of the best greek hardcore punk bands outta greece.

Formed in late 80's, theband appeared in many tape-compilations, both greek and abroad. They havereleased a split lp with Kismet HC, a 7inch (get it here) on profane existence recs (profane claimsthat this is on the top-5 releases the label has done since nowadays) and afull-length lp.
This one.

Released in 1993 from wipeout records this masterpiece of pure energy has 11 tracks of perfect hardcore"the-greek-way" punk. I have said before, I think greece's scene(if you can call it this way) have had one of the most technically accomplishedbands around the globe. Mainly influenced by the greek punk bands of early80's, mixing the heavy (and thrash) metal influences of the late 80's era has given a blendof sounds to be named as catchy, strong, technical, from the heart and finallyover the top.

This release is the most"fast" and angry (and the last) the band ever released. Compared tothe previous releases that have more melodic and mid-tempo tunes, this one"take-no-prisoners". Give notice to the excellent drum-works and thecatchy-as-hell guitar riffs. Members of arnitiki stasi used to play toViomihaniki autoktonia (Industrial suicide). Also, makis (bass-player) left theband before the release of this one, to join the forces of anasa stahti (ashen breath).

Death Token - All Dreams Are Nightmares LP (2011)

When I boughtthis lp, some weeks ago I expected a full-on ejaculator of dirty Japanese noisypower. But seems that as the years go by, these Danish gents learnt how to usetheir instruments. As a good friend said : “this is punk to the bone, truebadass motherfuckers”, and hell, they are! From the first riff of “war andorder” you get an extremely vicious Discharge-d fuelled attack filtered withbreak-bone throats. “Start the fire – Burn them out” as the lyrics declare andyou have to carry the gallons, sir. Music-wise n this diamond you won’t gettheir Japanese influenced chaos but I have to say that I like it this way morethan the previous releases. Songs like “venomous” with that mid-tempo rhythmand the double vocals makes my day fuckin worth a million, coz I can sing-alongas I’m walking in this god-damned city of lunatic zombies and drug addictcorpses. “Chaos rules – Chaos rules – Post atomic Religion – Melted face –Mutant messiah” and in the end “when dreams turn into beasts – all dreams arenightmares”. Pay attention to the necros, this is an ace.

Let's talkabout candies. I definitely like candies. I like sucking, eating, buying,licking and eating again, what else candies. And know what? I don't care if my teethget rotten to the core. If I can judge right fromthe pics the band have upload in their blog, here we have the two Guitarist(and the one vocalist of course) of the almighty MONSTER. and i damn right, theband's members have been involved with groups like Monster, Highscore, Durango95, Costa's cake house, Bombenalarm and Nails. What the fuck? The best bandsoutta germanythe last decade in front of my eyes. You know my love for the german hardcorescene of the 00's and i have done lots of posts in this blog, coz they deliverit in the right way. Punishing, mid-paced with lyrics like acid and riffs likenails and this band is no exception. Mid-tempo hardcore punk with a touch of80's us hardcore, yep it's brilliant. So, if you liked the last Monster's albumalongside some Highscore parts (especially the double vocals), some rockishparts like Nails and later Bombenalarm then you'll dig this for sure. And yes,alongside overpower's tape this is the best LP of 2011.period. I just bought this great lp and i highly recommend to everyone of you to do the same.

The theme for my new post is the upcoming hot september that we are gonna experience. Economical crisis is getting worse, we'll propably have not enough money to buy bread but we are too stubborn to bow down (Όπως λέει καιτο σύνθημα “Καταλήψεις – Απαλλοτροιώσεις– Οδοφράγματα! Η φτώχεια θέλει καλοπέραση!”), and we gonna rock it (literally and figuratively), right?

So, on 12 of september Dogsholylife will play on Strefi's hill with Conspiracy of Denial and Timetrap.I'm glad that i am among the guys that runs this gig, and you should come and support the venue 'coz every single cent that we make as profit will be given to the "solidarity fund for prisoners in struggle".

Now, Dogsholylife comes from Los Angeles and delivers amazing short-fused crust with tones of great and catchy riffs, simple playing with exceptional drumming that builts up for their dual vocals. You can download their first album from their bandcamp page. It's called "44 weeks - 44 questions". At the bottom of the post i also have the link for their new Lp called "this is a test", so go on and shout : "destroy their fucking metal and bang your fuckin head".

Four days later (16 of september) again on Strefi's hill we'll have the chance to enjoy some of the catchiest punk/hardcore tunes from some crazy old-wolves from mexico. Crimen. Fuck yeahh, this is the first post for a brzilian (not thongue) band after two years of blogging existence. And we know brazil for the great coffee, the sloppy national football team, the beautiful women, the black metal bands that copy pastes Rotting Christ's greek accent or the finnish bands that want to play brazilian 80's thrash, but we surely don't know them for their killing d-beat hardcore / crust, or do we?

So, Douglas was kind enough to sent me his band's demo and ep and i'm glad to post it. Even if Deaf Kids is a totally gay (not with sexual meaning) name for a d-beat band (diskids would be more fun) this guys totally have the noise in their veins, so open up your ears, this worths it.

"Deaf Kids is a brazilian anarchist crust/d-beat punk band formed in 2010 in rio de janeiro. Is actually an one man band, one guy who writes and records everything, and in the gigs, counts with friends from some other great brazilian bands on the bass and drums. For those that likes the mix-tapes I made a new one with songs that really turns me up and can't remove them from my stereo. These are the bands i'm obsessed lately, take pen and paper and we start. When you seek for a sick-o first track it's always a good choice for an intro especially when this intro welcomes you to the “age of continues warfare” of Behind Enemy Lines. “But the darkness was here yesterday” and from the raging Dogsholylife to the last screams before death. Death Rattle (epithanatios roghos) demonstrating their ugly tragedy-influenced d-beat with clouds of despair. Raw nerves with their lethargic mid-tempo hardcore opens the scene greatly for the straight dirt of Burning Love's “lives of the saints” (lyr:That aren't "obsolescence", "system" or "machine"... are you holding out on me?Lives of the saints, be the death of you) and that leads us to one of my favorite bands and maybe my favorite song, Indigent from Born/Dead (“so proud of your modern prison....”). Later I’ll hook you up with the primitive hardcore/punk of Brother Inferior and the ugly darkness of Masskontrol. Pay attention to “this is the way we do it in Leivadia” crust of the Disrupt worshipers Doomed to Extinction that makes “the ending fight” of Tragedy sounds like the new Katerina Stikoudi's pop hit. Sarabante released the best album of 2011 worldwide in my humble opinion and I couldn't include their greek lyrical anthem (“Βαρια τα φτερα μου, πιο βαρια απο μενα”) while Against Empire biting with their japcore title “choose to fight”. Goodnight in flames. Raw d-beat for supper. The best bands in the genre. Go filth go and Kromosom. Play it Loud

Police Bastard & War//Plague - split (2011)

Have you ever think why you like crust/punk and why you listened to this stuff as you growing older? Is just a kind of music that you like, is it the d-beat trend or just something else? As images of myself pumps up in my brains plasma i can say this. I love this style of music 'coz till this day it makes me wanna explode, my blood pressure goes up and my lungs feeling suffocation, i wanna scream and jump and punch things. Everytime i listen bands like Detestation, aus-rotten, Born/Dead or if we put it under a "genre" the so-called anarchist crust/punk still boils my blood. Here is the Police Bastard entrance.

Police Bastard is a hardcore/crust band from UK with some of the oldest guys in the hardcore scene of the island. They have been in bands such as Doom, English Dogs, Sore Throat, Contempt and Filthkick (to name a few) and have been one of the best bands in my "hardcore" eyes when i first listened to their exxcellent 7'' "Gulf war syndrome". A 7'' that was dirty, heavy, with great riffs, sick to death with great vocals and i only compared it to the two graet 7'' of the swed's Crossing Chaos. Now, the new release (outta Profane Existence "making bucks from punk again") is a little bit "clean". I don't know if that's a bad think, but i expected a fucking sludgy rubbish heap come out of my speakers and i got a very good played crust punk with political lyrics (a fucking plus as always) but not so "tight and strong".
On the other hand War//Plague comes from mineapolis with members from Provoked, Pontius Pilate, Flux of Disorder, Calloused and Path of Destruction to deliver great d-beat crust the old 90's way (the good profane existence..hahahah) with a huge Amebix influence. 8/10

I don't know how many of you have been isolated for your physical environment, but I can tell you this. If you are nailed in bed with your leg shattered inside a plaster you seek for some reasons to hook on simple daily-life things. Even if you read a neo-noir book of Taibo II (“Ε'ιναι το Λεάντρο ένα όνομα για ξεκώλιαρηδες?”) with some Bulgarians communist revolutionaries dressed up like magicians making a real mess the whole world you can't escape to directly connect them with some killer new band that suddenly came up in your mind (ρε κάτσε να βάλω το demaκι των Conspiracy να το ακούσω, καλά παίξανε τις προάλλες) and this turns to be very annoying, especially when your leg aches.

Conspiracy of Denial live on Arm your Desires fest.

Now, to the point. Conspiracy of Denial is a five piece war machine that will not ask your little sister a romantic date, NO. The only date you go with those nuts will be on amazon jungle with machetes and colt shotguns. Some guys were palying for injekting khaos and katiusha.

The band recorded recently 7 tracks for a proper release but due to lack of time and in front of their participation in Arm your Desires fest, they decide to offer a 3 track demo as a cd-r without mastering. The sound nevertheless is above that you can call decent. If you like all that neo-crust haunting style guitars with lyrics preaching the end of the world with glitters of hope through a personal revival dressed up with Schifosi's dress, From ashes rise's maskara and Massmord's αελαινέρ then...the choise is up to you!

Overpower - Demo 2011

Wow, what we have here?

A new band from some oldpogo wolves of the german hardcore scene.

My knowledge-ownerinformer told me that the band consists of ex members of brutalmasterminds BURIAL and THE NOW-DENIAL. I don't know if that'saccurate but I believe him and propably you'll do the same whenyou'll listen the first song.

This is fuckin'rock-driven, fast forward hardcore punk the good way. Their singeryelling his lungs out – not the japcore style as you might except –with a true sincerity and a knife in his hand. Yep, that's fuckingdeadfull hardcore guys. The guitar is over the whole production andthis is the main reason, I think, this demo is so “strong” andtight. The riffs are the usual speedy freaked-out ala Paintboxillness while the drums and bass lines offers cathcy dancing songsreminding me the first 7'' of Burial without the deathside vocals orthe Doomtown Lp (check for example “the power to be” or “24hours”). This demo have been released as a limited lp (300 copies)and it's maybe the best album I listened to lately alongside theropes second demo. Thanx goes out to stathis who pointed his fingerto this shit.

Kafka - Truths

Another great mini-cd that came ten years ago in my mailbox, in the golden ages of tape-trading. Kafka born in genova in 1995 as a melodic hardcore punk band but quickly changed their sound and their influences to more metallic edge paths. They were a straight-edge band, that everyone that have seen them live back in the day in villa amalias have only good words to say.

To understand their sound better, think Blackfish records sound, yep Ian Glasper's label with that early 00's good metallic-hardcore releases. In this mini cd the band have clear influences from the NYHC scene with all that great mid-tempo parts that turns out the delight soundtrack of a violent mosh-pit. Their guitar riffs make clear that the band loves Slayer, especially on the opening riff of Generaziona di stupidita.

Add some really screaming low-edged vocals and Kafka turns into the ultra-chaotic hardcore band in my ears, or it's just that when i buyed that disc i was only 15, so the band sounded to me really extreme, but then i still enjoy this shit. One is for sure, Kafka alongside Frammenti, have very igh standards for the italian hardcore of the late 90's. Two bands worth checking out. Last but not least : "If Biohazard didn't play for money and were from italy their name would propably be Kafka." and "The perfect impact is of course live, with a high shrill voice over a chaotic metallic background that blows anything up.".

Apostolis sent me his band's demo a couple of months ago and i still digging the words to make it through. Here you'll find no nice words.

My turn comes from athens, greece and they play positive hardcore (no, i'm no kidding... they declare it).

So, in the vein of 7 seconds and with their original name to be Positive Approach, My Turn delivers short-fused hardcore tracks full of of childish freshness (even if they are close to 30).

Add the screams of a young virgin girl and you have the new must of athens city, something like mojito with fresh lime...

IRE - I discern an overtone of tragedy in your voice

On the last masakari's album we can find a song under the title "pain convicted as a tool", perhaps the verb convicted may not be the right one but the canadian powerhouse that combines the three letters IRE is the true description of how the human mind can create or describe a painfull atmosphere. Ladies and gentlemen, from '97 comes the vocabulary of grief, the mighty "I discern an overtone of tragedy in your voice".

Members of IRE have been or still are on famous bands of the canadian scene such as: Cursed, The black hand, Land of Kush and Cobra noir. Not bad at all, huh?

Ire delivers four tracks in more than 24 minutes, mixing the technical hardcore and enmocore of the mid-90's scene aka Catharsis with ultra sink(y) parts, the guitars are deep inside shit, the mind that came up with that riffs is deadly ill while some black metallic blast beats creates a nightmarish environment. Have in mind that we are in '97 and still bands have something to say (i can't understand why people are so impressed with bands like Light Bearer and the other boring kind).

I made an arrangement with bat from fugitive equilibrium to make a short tribute to IRE so here you can find the split with seized and their self titled 7''. He will also post their other Lp "What seed, What Root?".

Active Minds

"The road to fame and fortune is an easy one to take - the door is always open for those who are on the make. If you're dumb enough to stick your head's in corporate mouths, they're ready to chew you up and spit you back out." are the opening lyrics of the song "The road to fame and fortune", a bright piece of "guidance" in my youth years. Active minds were one of my favourites bands of my childhood and they still are, so let's see the reasons why.

It seams that some people stick so badly to their opinions and have the willing to express it, a fact that always attracted me. Those brothers from scarborough have express their views to all the fucking topics that a human mind could ever think about. Like the above mentioned track they do a hard but true critic to all that bands that beginning from diy ethics did the crossover and signed contracts with major labels and multinationals of the music industry, bands like chubawamba and the blaggers. They had the strenght to say "dis is getting pathetic" in a time that more and more discharcge clone bands popping up (still do) or with the whole crap the hardcore scene appears to be, pathetic, apolitical and stagnant. They wrote lyrics about the animal exploitation, the human stupidity (they had a serious theme with metal bands with stupid lyrics (do you remember "stupid lyrics - why bother?'or "at war with satanists")), the straight edge or the alcoholism problem.

My personal favourites are "The natinal lotta E" and "I'm not atourist..." seveninches. It's so amazing what can do only two persons with a guitar and a drum-kit, full of dreams, ideas, views, and love for what they're doing. Even if you think they are "puritans" i higly recommend to give'em a good listening 'coz here we have some some shining hardcore diamond moments. check out for example "insomnia" with that "hyped-wannabe" rhythm that gives spins to your head.

"What sort of a world are we living in where people are discriminated against for their colour of your skin?" from "Sick world" seems to be the soundtrack of modern life in the centre of athens with so many racist attacks lately. They also run Loony Tunes records and i don't what else to say...

Wild//Tribe - Endless Nights

Found this band on the net "by accident" and fuckin' blown away. Wild//Tribe comes from texas and share members with the great crust/core band Unit 21 (or Tribe is the new band of that fellows, i don't know for sure).

So, i don't really have so much to say.. Here we have a band that combines great japanese hardcore with that Tragedy pogo parts. They keep on reminding me the better stuff of World burns to death (early days) with that metallic edge d-beat or how Masakari would propably sound if they didn't change so much their sound after their first 7''. This is a 6 track album with great tracks that will make your neck ache and knees broke, and by the way this is awwweesome. Cover art by Sugi!

Burn Again - Excuses for apologies

Let's get this straight, this post is definitely not for those who don't afford modern styles of music, talent, well played crust and the land finland. It's also not for those who wear police sunglasses, eats ice-cream in a cool shiny day or even think that they live in a perfect world. This world has hate, famine (and Darkthrone) and Burn Again, a band who can drop the whole sky in your little head (as their track "the sky is falling" declares).

As my good friend billy asked for some scandi-crust i felt i owe him a post, not that his taste is similar to burn again, but at least i tried. So, let's start with the infos. "Excuses for apologies" is the cd release of the band's demo alongside the side of the split with Lahdon Aika (also a killer band from finland. Here you can download some tracks the band offers for free). It has been released in Japan by Acclaim, Urban resistant and Reset not equal zero records.

Here we have pure d-beat orgy with tones of modern crustcore guitar leads and riffs, melodic and catchy bridges, fast drums and dual male vocals, both angry and mean. I know you think From Ashes Rise (also Never Built Ruins and the other brutal neo-crust german bands) etc and you should do, but here is something bigger than just "neo-crust" label, it's about heart, passion and beating, or even better i like to think is the legacy of another great finnish band called Sharpeville. So, be ready to feel the sky crushing you.

Sucked dry - tape & 7''

Some time ago, while i was chating with Dan from http://old-fast-and-loud.blogspot.com/, he told me that he will release a 7'' from a new band from Kansas city called Sucked dry. I somehow (or dumbhow) found a digital copy of that 7'' (called "falling apart at the seams'') and i was blown away. Heavy and clear bass lines played super fast, drums that makes the less of the less turns, great angry vocals and catchy riffs. You know that i love everything that combines old-school hardcore played in our time. Fresh, ultra-violent, pessimistic and strong like tornado (Βαγγουρα τσεκαρε). Does Out Cold comes in mind? It should be, 'coz this young lads delivers first-class negative hardcore like the "fathers" did. On the bottom of the post you'll find a download link. The folder contains both the new casseette and the "falling apart..." 7''.
I sent the band an e-mail and we start chating, the rest column you can call it an (extra-mini) interview (but it's not). SUCKED DRY have my respect, time for you now :

FC : Who the fuck are you?
SD: Hi, I'm nic. I'm 21 years old, I'm the guitarist and vocalist. David (drums) is 19, and Jake (bass) is 22. We've been playing bands together since we were 15-ish, but nothing of note, really. Jake and I went to elementary school together. We live in a house on the East side with 3 other guys.

FC: What is like living on Kansas city? any notable hardcore bands i should check?
SD: Kansas City is cool. It's not different from any other smaller sized city. I think we're the 9th most dangerous city in US, but that might be a little misleading. We live in pretty serious Crip neighborhood (listen to Fat-Tone), but we've never had any problems. The neighbors are all really nice to the weirdo white kids, and this group of little girls from down the street are always hanging out with us on the porch and asking us dumb questions. We've got a lot of great hardcore bands, too: Dark Ages, Der Todesking, Sorry Excuse, Kicked In, and No Master (which Jake and David are now in doing their respective instruments after our friend Johnny passed away last year.)

FC : Are you politically active (in general)?
SD : It's hard to be really politically active in the Midwest, let alone the US in general. Political candidates don't really disclose their views or policies very earnestly, so public knowledge on the people you vote for tends to be fairly vague and murky, so needless to say, it's pretty discouraging. Plus, you know, whatever. Fuck those guys. I mean, college tuition in England gets raised a pound and people are burning buildings down, while in the US college tuition is tripling (in some cases quadrupling) the rate of inflation, and there's an immense feeling of, not necessarily apathy, but a kind of impotency. At least, I feel like there's very little I can do to change anything.

FC : Your songs are fast and mean. What's the fuel that makes you write those hateful lyrics?
SD : The songs we write don't espouse a very specific political agenda. The lyrics are more of a reflection on what it means to be a person these days. We're all pollution producing, boot licking egomaniacs. It's almost inescapable.

FC : why are you hating the police?
SD : The boys in blue don't miss out on our dedications. ACAB

FC : Last comment?
SD : We're all vegeterians.

Cross stitched eyes - II

Here we have my latest obsession. Cross stiched eyes comes from different countries (uk, germany and usa) to deliver the one and only deadly thing: Amazing hardcore punk. Tim Crow (check out desperately Bad Influence and Zygote if you haven't already) plays the bass guitar.

Members of Cross Stitched Eyes consist of the bands, some past, some present: ZYGOTE, UK SUBS, ENEMIES, ANGER OF BACTERIA, COLD DEATH, SUBHUMANS, BLACK MASS, ENDROPHOBIA, TUORETTE SYNDROME, SWORN LIARS, and ALARIC.

Now, here we have their recording called "II". It consists of their first ep ("I"), some newer studio recordings and some demo versions. It has thirteen tracks, some of them are highlights such as : "cross', "cast out", "suffer" etc. They blend with a nature feeling totally different stuff with a great spell. Awesome vocals that reminds early uk crust, some Rudimentary peni atmosphere, With a solid foundation of heavy, pounding drums, dark, driving riffage, and an overall evil/scary ambience, they are truelly a great band and i'm glad i finally got to listen their records.

After some time i finally found the new Burning leather lp. I know you might seeking for this one for some time now, so now you can get it.

In case you're waiting for a brand new album i will let you down. This Lp has 10 tracks, 6 are from the first demo and the rest 4 are new material. The tracks from the demo have more driven sound, some extra guitars, more mid-paced feeling and in general rocks. The new material continues the Burning Leather. Dirty, stinking alcohol, motorhead-friendly and ear-bitting. I think that i prefer the sound of the first demo 'coz it gives you more ENERGY but i honestly believe that this one is rock'n'roll diamond, and remember this statement after ten years. So, here we have Words that Burn from wisconsin. Lately i have re-invent my love for hardcore-punk in general, when bands like this one, like mauser or Cross stitched eyes come across my stereo. Words that burn have also another lp called "spawning ground for heroes".

This 7'' has 5 tracks of great heavy and solid crust-punk in the vein of early Profane Existence releases (yep, i mean the 90's, mate) even if "profits..." released somewhere in 2004. The first song "666 pack" has that stupid lyrics about alcohol passion and the rest stupid usual crusty theme (the lyrical approach on crust-punk about alcohol i can say is the only thing i really hate about crust, even more than patches.) but the guitars are thick and they have something like an intro that reminds me a lot the greek hardcore / crust scene of the 90's in greece, bands like Chaotic end or Forgotten prophecy comes in mind. Think something between Amebix and Nausea. Strong, thick and mid-tempo.

And as i like to do, i'll borrow some words : "the more serious tracks attacking corporate greed, war, religion, etc. are fine by me. Typical, but fine. "Badges won't pay for life, Those who choose to serve, To breathe the death, As they stand and fight, Irresponsible technology swallows, His dreams for tomorrow are chemically burned..." Another solid release from Words That Burn. It's really nothing new, but it still delivers."

Ok, this is a new fucking 7'' from florida's Mauser. I had a long time to listen to a good, solid 7'' and this is what mauser truelly deliver. Catchy, raw d-beat with the vocal-style i like. HEAVY and growling. Each leg of the band is on different ship with the upstabbing discharge feeling being here for good, reminding me "realities of war" 7'', while the other is flerting with the sweds. Skitsystem, anti-cimex and the likes while you can hear some straight influences from all the reverbed vocal bands (Destino final etc). The Fallout - Dismantlement

I woke up this morning with the tunes of this great canadian band ringing in my ears, so i give you some good old surfing punk rock. And that's coz i can't post again Rajahtaa's demo cd-r.
While i was searching some new bands on the web i came across a very good radio-show from canada, called equalizing-x-distort, where the guy behind the mic played all the tracks from the fucking rajahtaa demo. At last some greek band gets some notice outside greece. In his "show" i saw that he posted a band called The Fallout and i got a flash-back "somehow i know that bastards'. So, getting my head clear i remembered that this band is the same one with the band that have been impressed me a while back. They have been part of two cd-r(s) the magazine Profane Existence gave with the mag. Tracks like "peace, love, anarcgy" and "compassion over killing" made me dance on my bedroom like i am a 15 years old boy that now comes across - for first time - with bands like the Adverts, dead kennedys, Magazine or Blitz. Yep, Fallout combines all the great melodic parts of the early uk punk bands with very good - to the point - lyrics and some hints of modern us punk rock (reminds occasionaly anti-flag or pennywise but in a good way - trust me). This album was released back in 2007 and i think it's their fourth full lenght and their final release. Yeah this is punk-rock to the bone and this is my new week's soundtrack.

Letter from the imprisoned comrade Christos Politis

Stylianos Glykofrydis should have been a really prominent man during his times, while he had served as director and general supervisor of prisons. He had been calling the government to fight against communism “imitating straightly or in a milder way the acts of Hitler” while in 1936 proposed for the Communists waiting for a trial to limit their rights during the visiting and the courtyard time (toavoidcontactwithotherprisoners “that lead to the well-known and unwanted results”).

The thoughts, the perception, the proposals of Stylianos Glykofridis certainly were not left untapped by the modern state.

After our kidnapping, mine and Kostas Barlis’, from Exarcheia on the 4th of January, we get led to the offices of the antiterrorist unit. While my comrade was being set free, they announce the arrest of mine after 48 hours. At the same time, the chief of the Greek Police states cynically that I was arrested “because I was set free about the case of Efeteio”. Namely for a case for which I have been called and examined by the 8th regular investigator judge and I have been released after her decision. The truth is that they are interested in keeping me as a hostage exactly because I am an anarchist. Because during the last 15 years I am active in this radical political part. Inmy case, it is not simplyattempted only theupgrading but also the development of the repression method of criminalizing friend and comrade relationships, the results of which are experienced lately by dozens of fighters. In my case, the antiterrorist unit moves to build up relationships which do not exist in reality while I do not even know personally my co-defendants. After my pre-jailing, while the hooded antiterrorist units were talking more often with the investigator judge than my lawyers were, I get led to Grevena jailhouse, a detention establishment of C Type. Despite that according to the penal code “In C Type jailhouses are kept without communication with prisoners of other categories, prisoners who serve penalty of life-time imprisoning or temporary imprisoning for at least ten years and are accounted as particularly dangerous for the smooth co-existence in other types of jailhouses”. An isolated jailhouse, with law buildings and high walls in order to cut from sight anything from the environment, with cameras and electronic security systems everywhere. A static and stony construction that wants to deprive any exoteric stimulus, to flatten your personality, to destroy you mentally. Obviously, while following orders they put me in a “security” sector, without being asked for something like this from mine, without being threatened by anyone and despite my continues applies to get out of here. The result of this deliberate persistence is to impose on me an aberrational status quo of absolute isolation, trying to – up to a level – to raise my request for my transfer to Korydallos jailhouse.

The economical policy definitely includes as a supplement also a new “quality” of state repression. Today that capitalism can not hide its real face, the social consent can be approached only through violence. Through the courts’ decision that judge the workers’ strikes as illegal, through water cannons, through threatens for levy en mass, through tear-gases, through “antiterrorist” operations. Through the callouts for self-control and through the screams of journalists. Only and only through these methods, the Greek state will become a successful experiment, that will turn the country into a region-part of strong Europe and make it an economical paradise for the bosses. With a population keeping holding on, waiting for someone to come and save them and the persons who are counted as left-over crowding in front of soup-kitchens or inside the jailhouses. Already, since the beginning of the 70’s, the “antiterrorist” policy has overcome the traditional anticommunist policy. It has turned into the answer coming straightly from the status quo, into the repression of an enemy who was everywhere present, diffused, flexible and not specific and static like the formal Communistic Parties or the Soviet Army in Eastern Europe. Already, the new enemy was found among the dynamic and polymorphic movements, among the proletarian parts that do not get homogenized, among the urban guerilla. So today, when more and more actions and political practices are under the targeting of the Counter Authority for Crimes of Special Violence, the “antiterrorism” for the Authorities is something to be commanded in order to keep the people’s rage encaged inside the limits of a pretended realism and conformism. That’s the reason of the persecutions with doubtful DNA samples, of the cascade upgrades on the “terror-law”, of the “wanted” callouts, of the special offences (ιδιώνυμο) against comrade and social relationships, of the continues surveillances, of the hundreds of fighting persons who are judicial hostages and the dozens of persons who are kept inside the jailhouses, of the mass media propaganda that talks about “terrorists” and “co-transportingvessels”… All these, in order to lend fake meanings on words, to isolate and finally smash the internal enemy. To smash all these people who stir up the class hate and escalate the national division, all those who boost solidarity, self-organized action and clash with the status quo.

The bet for us on the time of our seasons is, more urgent than ever, to determinate the line of history. Because Capitalism, its total poverty and misery that are imposed, is not a one-way direction.

Days go by so fucking fast like tornados, music lately sucks (in all forms) and i stucked with some "emo" desert tunes lately that helps me bite my insomnia. But every now and then some terrific new band comes from the ultimate dark to catch up with my numbness and make me wanna start run in the night, wearing hooters and sport clothes. Dear ladies and gentlemen, Return to Your Seats and Fasten your Seatbelts, here we have Kingterror.

So, i'll skip Agathocles 'coz the belgians mince-core founders wants no introduction. Just meat and potatoes style grind. We love them anyway. a band with good political lyrics.

Now, Kingterror! You may remember a band called Rubbish heap. And you may remember that i love rubbish heap. So, a guy called Kim have contacted me and told me that he used to play for rubbish heap and if i'm interested i can check out his new band called Kingterror. Musically the band offers a great blend of old-school hardcore with some fast as hell blastbeats who will fucking nail you. They have great riffs and vocals so fucking check them. Not forgot to mention, this band have some very familiar and also close to me, thoughts about mixing music with politics, read it carefully :

"we are four individuals with somehow common backgrounds and interests. we were in other bands, we have mutual ‘friends’, we have jobs. some of us have children. we are not saints. but we ain’t sinners either. we try to make something here for ourselves within this out-of-hand capitalist system. some of us drink, some of us smoke, some of us just breathe. some of us are creative outside of music. some of us prefer not doing anything at all. we want to have our say. we are not pointing fingers but if you feel offended by anything we say or anything we write... we think maybe there’s something wrong with you or your views. reconsider them first. if somehow you still think we are full of crap, we prefer animated conversations above so not-done barfights. violence and ‘i’m gonna get you’ grudges are not our thing.

we also prefer bands, venues, distro’s and labels that have something to stand for other than how cool their shit is. this is hardcorepunk. if you think it’s boring to hear all that leftist shit at shows and start complaining about biting the hand that feeds and not being able to change a thing, just fuck off.

hardcorepunk without content is totally useless. like beer without alcohol. we want to share information and frustration. say what we think needs to be said. we’re not talking about destroying the system and burning police cars (though that could be nice too). HELL, it’s not like we are throwing molotovs at every demonstration. it’s about awareness and small-scale action. the state will not be overthrown by some hardcorepunk kids, but we can claim a place for ourselves and for criticism. for free thinking and discussion. for squats and other small initiatives. for creativity. for non-capitalist entertainment. a space free of corporate sponsoring and advertisement. creating a bulb of chaos and mayhem. a fucking moment of freedom. where we can talk, dance, smile, cry, love, fight or crash down on the floor."

Holy crap, i'm so excited to write about some of the best N.W.O.J.N.H. bands (new wave of japanese noisy hardcore) in this post that i can't feel my legs. Here we go. I first listened to these comps mainly to the "italian" monsters Isterismo (songs of the band included on both comps). But here we have some deadly good hardcore, Hit it band-by-band.

Here you'll get two compilations released in japan. Hard Core Inferno and Yotsuva. Both comps have been released in 2009. Firstly, let's see Hard Core Inferno.

First band is Death dust extractor that everybody knows more or less (they have tracks on both comps and you gonna noise your ears really bad with these gents). Ada plus max and Krossa are the highlights on this comp. Ada plus max have that dirty hardcore sound, with some metallic riffs that make me want to lay down and trip out really bad. Krossa continues that noisy hardcore full of vocal-reverbs but they do it really great. I prefer them in compare with other "famous" noisy bands. Deathtribe mixing their technically accomplished crust ala Battle of disarm with fast drums and schizzoring guitar tunes, while Skizophrenia have the most radio-friendly tracks, i don't like the voice (reminds me of UK82 style in a strange way) but the tracks are blistering. Tantrum are good and fast, but nothing extraordinary. Disturd are fucking heavy and a little bit thrashy reminding me how Bolt-throwerish crust should be played. Play them loud and you'll be deaf. Chaotix are more or less "expected" and isterismo are Isterismo. Last but not least, Sacrifice. Good as an old wine, noisy crust.

Yotsuva comp starts with three tracks from Isterismo (can you ask something more?) and continues with three tracks from Death dust extractor (No, you can't ask for nothing more). Lastly (the band) are not my cup of tea but you can say that have this crazy chaotic sound. Zyanose continues the noise odyssey but in an exeptional way. Crazy japanese motherfuckers, sniffing pepper.

VA - Hardcore inferno & VA- Yotsuva

Crude - Corner 12'' (2010)

Happy new year to everyone, guys. Hope the new year will be much better than the previous one. I had a perfect anniversary evening with lots of friends, good home-style wine and tsipouro, met the guy behind crustcracker blog and slept on a floor. The previous year was in general bad, but it had the so-called highlights.

I start feeling like the official site of Crude 'coz the majority of band's album are posted here, but then...com'on : Crude! PLUS : this month i'll post only japcore albums (what an originality, ha!).

Being among the lucky elitists that saw these sharp-eyed mosters some time ago in a basement somewhere in the world, and being impressed from the shinning smiles of the japanese guys (great for a band that the only english were "ok", "yes", etc) i thought that you might want to listen this album before you buy it.

Here you'll get no fancy, car-stereo, diamond-sound album. The album is recorded on a four-track and i must admit that i was a little bit sour with the sound 'coz you can't listen clear enough neither the bass lines, nor the guitars. After 10 times, i finally believe that the guys do the right thing. The know that these tracks have not the quality of "Attitude" lp so they accomplished to have a dirty and raw sound so the recording to be more "dog-bitting". If you expect some familiar poser-friendly solos or the usual epic Crude guitars you can skip this post 'coz it will led you down for sure. On the other hand here we have CRUDE.

Here you'll get the unbelievable Genocider 7'' that has this great sloppy crust feeling, a truelly negative anthem that i've buyed in 2000 and i was been stunned and the also heavy and metallic having it's roots more on sludge/hardcore roots and motorhead "reverance the sacrifice" cd from 2002.

Oh my god, already a year passed since i started this damn blog. One year of joy doing some posts and sharing with all of you some interesting views about our favourite music, i met some great persons through bloging and still like it.

One year ago, Trouble on your system blog has posted "fifteen counts of arson" album from his hero is gone and since i wanted to start a crust blog (in the way, we got more on hardcore roads) plus the countless arson attacks happened in the greek state i thought that this was the most perfect name. I start this thing mainly 'coz i'm a bit stubborn, i have faith in my music choices and wanted to say what i think about my favourite albums 'coz i believed that i can do it better than others (fool....). In this weird trip i met guys that doing this bloging think much better than me and still they are fucking cool guys. Bill from 7inchcrust, foris from crustcracker, marc from fugitive equilibrium (thanx for al the great rips you have sent me man) and finally bryan from trouble on your system.

I thought that posting fifteen counts album as a gift to all of you would be great, but then i thought you already have it, so i changed my mind on LINK's new album. This stuff is not yet released (if i'm not mistaken). Propably will be released on 14th of december through Moshpit tragedy.

So, Link is a belgian crust band including members of Silence means death and Last legion alive. Here you get 8 great tracks of "no glimpse of hope" neo crust full of brutal and heavy riffs, male and female vocals that delivers a great feeling of winter's despair. Imagine something like Remains of the day, later-Hiatus, Visions of war, Counterblast, Jobbykrust, Oroku or even The Makai and other heavy crusty shit. You won't be dissapointed. This goes out to R.

As the title says, this is my offering to a man's war appetite. This new various artists double seveninch includes propably the best new bands that great albion has to offer. You propably know the bands already, so let's make a brief introduction.

On side A we have Closure, who are propably the most well-known band from the four bands participatinng here. Continuing their dark as night hardcore and go one step forward where their incredible 7'' stopped. More gloomy atmosphere, some sludge for the ugliness and the terrific vocals coming straight from a shattered mother's womb. They give me the impression that the 6 tracks they participate here is one and ugly song mixing power-violence with great bridge-structure. Judge for your own.

Side B : Here we find Mouth and their straight-up hardcore (the motherfuckers have great movie-samples! i envy them) from the heart. More or less, usual ass-kicking hardcore, i already love them from their demo. Youth crew sound meets thrash/core with lunatic vocals.

On side c we have Torn apart, which their self titled 7'' couldn't find anywhere. Here we have the best bass-guitar sound, making their power-hardcore a fucking knife in the heart. The powerful recording and the tight playing ensures your running for escape. "Nightstalker" is a killer (i swear it's on your new car cd-comp)

And finally, my favourites : Bonestorm. Here you get everything that the meaning of words Bone and Storm means when they come together. Fucking blast. Enjoy

Boktorva SS - gig report

Date and time have been arranged. Pack my things like a lunatic and catch-up the subway. My driver and dear companion through the next two days d-beat odyssey, d-bill has been late so i got the chance and enjoyed a cold coffee. As we finally hit the road listening to some old good Pink's tunes (u & ur hand etc) i couldn't imagine what i will go through the next hours but time were our ally...

Arriving on the university of patra was a pain in the ass but finally we did it, even if we have not seen the first two bands. My Turn were on stage and played really rad. Short songs, nice black flag's riffs with a positive feedback, so i didn't miss the chance to do some backing vocals on "can't tell no-one" cover. Deathbed who?

Now, let's get to the point. Seeing some familiar faces going in the first line for the upcoming war i fueled my throat with some stinking fix beer and got my place στα χαρακωματα του βουκολικου πολεμου.
The four horsemen of the crustcore apocalypse occupied stage with their axes well sharpen. Wearing wigs, they started to slaughter our ears and the only words that can describe the feelings brings in my mind the bay-area thrash of '80s : "On through the mist and the madness, We are trying to get the message to you. Metal Militia. Metal Militia.". Soon enough, we - the fans(lol) - hit the stage and every-single-one member of the band was upon our backs, we lift them again and again while guitar solos and drum blast-beats hit back on us like tornados. We tried to lift also the drummer up but the only think we managed was to destroy his drumkit, while he was trying to play his hi-hat with his body turned upside-down. A masked-man attacked midas on his guitar solo number 1342516278115, hitting him hard on his stomach. He only made his solos be meaner and eviler. Agathocles and Extreme noise terror covers just made the pain lust (and last) longer. The band was tight as good as a pair of denim jeans on Lemmy's legs. I have to admit that my vocals on cripple commander were shit mainly to the admire i have to the bassist of the band - known as Machete - so i lost my words, shit happens. Great gig and great people.
Conclusion : First gig for such a great band in twelve years, and propably we'll have to wait another twelve to see them again. Support the band, drink whiskey.

Crude - 1st Lp

So, what to write about CRUDE/s album from 1996...I am not really sure when it came out but it was recorded in 1996, 14 years ago. I think it came out on Straight Up Records in Japan and on some label called Dynamite kids from Belgium. Whatever, like their earlier stuff it's a little raw, which suits the songs really well. There are ten tracks on this record, the first song being kind of an intro which is pretty atmospheric and moody. My favorite track is the fourth song on the first side with a Japanese title. A real punk stomper they perform live on a regular basis. Come and get wild! And bring weed for them, they will appreciate that. I am not sure if they will like Tzatziki as much as I do, but you should try. Back to the record. On the LP they were a four-piece, now they turned into a three-piece, having two original members left, the drummer and the bass player who are brothers. Weed-adorers. Potential Tzatziki-fetishists. Unfortunately their new LP is already sold out, for all of you who wanted to buy it...but so you can safe your well-earned cash and get `em some dope. Opa opa, otsukare!!!

Frustration - self titled 7'' (2010)

I have to say sorry for the lack of posts lately, guys but i'm very very busy (and tired). I was among this 7'' and the brand new Lp of Raw Nerves, both released by Inimical records (blame them for the great Sahn maru Lp also) for my blog's next post and i've chosen this one due to the great mix of crusty sound while they play some type of dark hardcore punk, not that the raw nerves lp is bad, exactly the opposite. It's great and you have to check it out.

So, what the fuck with those punks? They come from seattle and if you are in the same music background as i am - to make myself clear i mean if the only bands that you know from seattle are Decrepit and Soundgarden - you are in the right place. This is a band that combines both of them. Weird ha? Not really. Pay some attention.

I'm joking you with guys, even if i like Soundgarden (this is an inside joke with Deathraid's drummer Devon - when i told him that stupid joke about soundgarden he told me : go tell it to jim. he used to play for Decrepit!!! Lovely guys all of the Deathraid crew..cheers guys), they couldn't been playing grunge-shit. Now, back to our theme. Frustration! This is a great band that combines in a perfect way some melancholic (d-)beats alongside Motorhead-type of vocals, while the bass and guitars are heavy and destorted. As i was under a Complications spell, this 7'' is everything i want to continue into the darkest seas of sanity, imagine Motorhead-meets-Leatherface-meets-Complications-meets-Coldbringer that finally meets Quarantine. Let's get once more, "back in the day". It was propably 2001 or 2002 when alex from hibernation sent me a bag of cool stuff. Detestation's "the inhuman condition" 7'', Cavity's "Fuck diablo" 7'' and this masterpiece split between two of the greatest japcore bands of the planet... I couldn't find it ripped anywhere, that's why i rip it. Since i can't trace it anywhere and as it was a request of buddy 7inchcrust here we go...

This 7'' has been released from H:G fact records (H:G fact-111 release) in japan and contains 4 songs of ultimate destruction...Songs to drink beers, songs to cry, songs to wake-up from hangover or songs to stare at birds (Liberate's "need the power..."). Also, Sugi's artwork is amazing and propably one of the best drawings the dude ever done.

On a-side we have Liberate from Tokyo, japan and the only think i know about them is that they are ex-members of ACID and Macrofarge and pre-members of Crossface.
Now, the sound is thick, modern japcore with great metallic riffs and crazy vocals like a dog barging before the bite. the japanese motherland has the tendency to offerr us... thanx for that... (and the bassist is Kawagutsi that i can not recall...other bands maybe?)

Selfish on the other side, is more or less well-known as one of the best japcore bands outside japan (alongside Burial). They started as a crustcore band with uk influences and soon change their sound to japanese hardcore. This is the first 7'' with the usual solid japanese sound. Tight ass maybe is the most ugly and sing-along song Selfish ever wrote and has a secret magic power to make you wanna do harakiri..Yeah right, and you know something... Chelsea (from Death side and Paintbox) do the guitar-solos here... The grave is open, go on and hide... Last chance.

Mike has been expecting this review for about a month (or maybe three months, bill?), so i can guess the look on his face when he reads these words. My apologies Mike, but better late than sorry!!!!...to the point now:

World Burns to Death. Fuck! A band that continues to surprise me with their 7'' releases. It's not that their LP's are bad, it's just that their 7'' are so fucking ''knife to the bone'' that without wanting it, you let their 12 inchers aside.

I'm referring to the split 7''s with Japans Slang and Blowback, as well as (actually ESPECIALLY) the ''The War Can Go On Forever'' 7''. The band seems tighter, faster and more ferocious than ever before. Imagine ''the Graveyard of Utopia'' era songs, blown out to total punk chaos hymns. Like a 10 ton bulldozer building up speed, the songs just grow and grow and grow, eating up everything. These new 7'' also celebrate the inglorious return of that echoing effect on the guitar leads I was missing since ''No Dawn Comes...Night Without End'' 7'' and the split with Sick Terror (NEVERENDING WAR...what a song!)...all hail that echoing effect!!

Actually I've been listening to the World Burns to Death sides so intensively (almost like some drug overdose religious ceremony...) I haven't gotten to the Japs yet...no kidding...
I'll leave a comment though when I get to them!

Quattro Stagioni - Self Titled LP 2010

Here we have Quatro stagioni from Trier / Germany. The band existed from 1998 to 2008 and this Lp released some months ago from 625 Trash records and RSR records. As i clearly enjoy 625 releases i didn't lose any time and pick this Lp up, first sight. So, these pizza-makers (yep, Quatro stagioni is a type of pizza) do it the right way. Groovy style hardcore mixed up with low-tuned old-school grindcore and the usual power-violence assaults to make the whole thing packed (δενει το γλυκο που λεμε). The only shitty thing is that the lp carries no lyrics. Who needs lyrics in grindcore, you may say but i think lyrics is equal to the music.

When you're guitarist plays with gloves (check the right hand) and a helmet, you can't go wrong. Check also here for previous releases : s/t 7'' and split with Iron lung.

La casa fantom - fredlos

Some days ago i reached the little social centre called pikrodafni, in a suburb of athens to watch La casa fantom. The gig was among friends, via mouth to mouth communication - no posters, internet etc. The 50 bastards that saw the norwegians i can say that were more than lucky if i can judge from the smiling faces right after the gig. A 30 minutes set with a drummer that stands for 10 drummers together, and a rythm bassist with great voice. As my shirt was completely stinky sweat i knew that i have to make a post for La Casa Fantom.

La casa fantom started back in 2000, when two friends - Lars and Bard - start to jamming in the livingroom of their collective outside the city of Oslo. Staying in the forest of oslo, eating from the garbage of the "civilized" society (the band has a track that means "dumbstep diving"), using amps that they found'em among trashes and fixing 'em by themselves i dare to say that these guys have made their own big refusals against modern society normes and capitalist system.

"Our name comes from a do it yourself wine kit which gives you 20 liter of redwine in 24 hours. It was just like our music, fast & dirty with a lot of nerves."

The band has already released two lp's (including Fredlos) and a bunch of 7inches, in their own label Iskrem Plater records (means icecream records) and all of them are great. This lp starts with a great simple intro with a little bit pessimistic lyrics to continue with a death-hymn full of blast beats and broken voices. These guys mixing so fucking good melancholic atmoshferes with crust, black metal (Norwegians, remember?) with grindcore. Jazzy grindcore (or post-crust) would be the most accurate description for the band's sound, as a friend told me in the show and i have to agree with him. Lars, the drummer, also palys in the sludge-hardcore band Hombre malo that features members from Ictus and This thing called dying.

You just need a drumkit with an octapus instead of a drummer, two voices that spitting venom, a bass with plenty of pedals with a dreadlock guy for the arms and... who the fuck needs guitars?

If you are familiar with this type of experimental noise, i'm sure you'll love La casa fantom. Give it a listen, in this rainy and numb day it's the perfect soundtrack.

Isterismo - Non Puo Sopprimiere Il Mio Conflitto 7''

This post - to be honest - was a huge fuck-off to the neo-trend band Kriegshog. Not that i have something to say about the band itself, but i have to criticize the hole "KVLT" thing that surrounds them. Kriegshog recently released a good - indeed - album on La vida es en mus records (spain) and H:G fact. The press made in japan and sent to europe overseas, so the guy from la vida had to pay extra taxes for the vinyls. The price of the lp is close to 19 euros (if you're lucky and have the privilege to afford to pay for 25 copies). So, why a god-damn lp of a diy band costs 20 fucking euros (in usa will cost close to 35 dollars!!!!!!!). And why all the guys go on and pay 20 fucking euros to buy a god-damn album. Is this punk? Are we so privileged nowadays? I ask that, knowing that the first press of the lp is sold-out. I don't know, i can't understand. Why do you pay 20 euros? Because they are japanese, they have distorted guitars, they make very intense shows, they have black and white covers, cool song-titles and because they are japanese. Oh, i told that already. They have plenty of elements to be the new cult. Fucking hipsters, i say. The album is good but not for 20 euros for sure (HELLOOOOO, it's a punk record). And for sure you ain't gonna see that album posted here!

So, I asked d. (black trinity / go filth go) to make a review about a very good band - that is not so trendy - called Isterismo. They are also from japan, they play distorted hardcore punk and as Tomorrow they are influenced from the late '80s - early '90s italian hardcore scene. They have released also a split tape with D-Clone and have been part of two great compilations called "Hard Core Inferno" (2010) and "Yotsuva" (2009). Both comps will be posted here in the next months. So, pay attention to d. :

I first checked out Isterismo on their split tape with D-Clone on which both bands were absolutely insane! Here it’s the same.
Ultra raw, ultra distorted guitar sound, massive drum beating and frenzy vocals! Also a LOT of energy! Makes you wanna crush things! All the titles are in italian (?!). I guess they were listening to a lot of Wretched when they wrote them! But the title means “Can’t suppress my conflict” or something like that, which I like.
This EP (that lasts less than 7 minutes) is a shot of nitroglycerin!

Zegota - Reclaim!

Zegota also known as the "Konrad Zegota Committee",was a codename for the Polish Council to Aid Jews (Polish: Rada Pomocy Zydom), an underground organization of Polish resistance in German-occupied Poland from 1942 to 1945.
The Council to Aid Jews operated under the auspices of the Polish Government in Exile through the Government Delegation for Poland, in Warsaw. Zegota's express purpose was to aid the country's Jews and find places of safety for them in occupied Poland. Poland was the only country in occupied Europe where there existed such a dedicated secret organization.

Now, Zegota is (was?) an international conspiracy - members of the band lives in sweden, usa etc - of four great musicians and political aware individuals. They have released one seveninch and three full lenght albums. Reclaim was released in 2006 and it's their last record

We can say that this album is a little bit experimental, has a lot of tempo changes, some cariibbean percussion, some noisy parts reminds me mainly the european screamo scene of the 90's. The lyrics have that strong political message well-hiden to some self-destroying lyrics, screams against the cops and the capitalist system dressed with great cutting-up drums and sickening guitars (the strange thing is that the guitars have not so much distortion but you get a weird feeling, trust me). If you seeking a reason to cut your veins tracks like "never trust a cop" or "struck by the wild" i think it's the right one. So much depression.

Also one guitarist has been session guitarist for Catharsis, that's why we have a strong connection between zegota and the great CrimeThink records. Also, interesting is the way zegota organize their own gigs or set-up gigs for other bands 'coz they use the "free-entrance" system (ελευθερη συνεισφορα το λεμε εδω αν και καποιοι φαινεται οτι το εχουν ξεχασει...). A very good release that comes in recycled paper so order a copy from crimethink and dance in the rain while you're crying.

Mark sheehan, singer - and bassist for some time - in OUT COLD (one of the best hardcore bands ever), guitarist of GG Allin and guitarist of Bad Chopper, died in the age of 41.

It's so terrible to try to describe how much a person (or a voice) had fueled your anger through the years. Even if i don't know Mark i can say that i was shocked when i first read about his death. Words can't do any good, so i stop. Long Live Mark Sheehan, hope we'll meet someday in another place and drink a beer together, talk and have fun. You're missed man and thanx for the memories.

Just get home from my best friend's birthday party. Everything was fucking awesome. beer as well as wine runs in my veins. As i opened the door and pressed the pc-button i realised that i have a fucking gift. Drock from the canadian bulldozer called System Shit (check them here and here) sent me the new 7'' of canada's japunks Nightbringer released this year on Chris Colohan's (yep, Cursed fame) label High Anxiety records. I'm so fucking excited.


Motorhead meets Bastard. Can you call this life?

Here we have, ann arbor's nightbringer - consisting of Ruination, Earthmover and Life set struggle members among others - that offer us three raging hardcore hymns in the vein of their first demo but with more (or less.hahahah i'm drunk) japanese elements. Imagine judgement plays like Warcry. D-beat mania for the wicked. The second song is a fucking killer that starts with all that cliche motor engine (BIKES SOUND - JULIA’s 1984 HONDA VF500F and IAN’s 2003 KAWASAKI Z1000) giving heads to a great rock'n'roll riff, fucking reverbed vocals and a bass-guitar like a five-speed fueled engine. Something like Burning Leather αλλα φουλ πιο αλητεια. Yes, they play both kinds of rock n roll...fast and loud, indeed. The sound is great, dirty and punky as it should be - Chris Colohan made a great job as producer - and if you like i can upload also their previous demo that is solid as hell but i know that you now found your new fix, one way or another, you have to ask for it. Finally, if i have a statement, this propably is :

Before i start to explain my choice to post a not so familiar for the blog band, i have to say sorry for the lack of posts lately. Hanging out too much with the Destino final guys has burnt my braincells (fucking morons...).

Sleazy inc. operated is an all-female trio, based on leipzig, germany. I can describe their tunes as a mix of old-school riot grrrl punk with tones of indie rock and grunge influences. You may be asking what the fuck is going wrong with me, but i have to tell you that sometimes everybody needs a "time-off" of all the noise. Hope you'll understand.

I have been among the lucky ones that saw that beautiful girls giving an unplugged show in a squat here in athens before some years and i was stunned from their approach in several topics as the "women" thing, daily-life or even the attitude. My smiley face gave me the opportunity to get their sleazy listening cd for free (just kidding, they were kind enough to give it to me for free 'coz i was broke). I have to admit that i had a crush on the girl behind the drum-kit. So, be prepared for some up-tempo but in the same time melancholic songs with not so much distortion, but played by the fucking heart, and i guess that's the important thing. Not forgot to mention, these girls played in the movie Meer is nich.

va - abstruct madness tour cd - Balzac & Delta & Rocky and the sweden

Once again i'm waiting dbill to write some inglorious words about WB2D. As the time passes i said : "screw him. let's make a good post". So, here we go. This 3 way split is a fucking rare and ugly japanese treasure and the only reason i post it is Delta.

This split cd has been released back in 2001 by Diwphalanx in japan in only 600 copies as a limited tour edition and was available only in the shows these three japanese bands made together in 2002.
Balzac is a very famous band in japan widely described as the japanese Misfits. You know what you'll get so i don't go further 'coz i neither like misfits nor the death-rock stuff. Then it was time and after that was Rocky and the sweden. The guys are great. They mix japcore with some good old punk with amazing great backing vocals. They remind me a lot bands like Paintbox, Forward or even Judgement. The usual great japcore, you know what you're coming for... They participate two tracks, one theirs and one is a great cover on "Crime for revenge" from Ultra Violent. Now, let's get to the point....

S.D.S or Delta? I can't tell

Delta is the legendary continue of S.D.S. Yep, the japanese Antisect and one of the best crust acts ever. As my comrade 7inchcrust has described very well in the past (check two posts about S.D.S here and here). Now, Delta is a more thrashy and metallic version of S.D.S while the clear early '90s crusty elements is everywhere on the recording. Delta continues where S.D.S stopped. Rough vocals, unstoppable drumming and crazy driven riffs. I forgot to mention that here we have three guys from the original S.D.S line-up plus the Iconoclast drummer. Not bad, ha? They had schedule to release a 7'' on MCR company but the band sadly broke-up. FUCK!

Janitor - Exterminate My Genereation

Hours after hours, i'm feeling tired. Lately i'm listening a lot of old-school hardcore in your face punk. Including Sucked dry, straightjacket nation, Mad world etc. You got the picture.

Janitor was a houston based, thrashy hardcore band. They play fast-forward thrashy punk (and this is the worst review since... i don't remember) awesome thinks described better as way too punky for your white rich ass hardcore. The guys really have it and you got to check'em out.

"We recorded a 19 song LP at Texas Music Studios in Houston sometime in July 1996. Originally, we wanted to release it as a 19 song LP but LPs were too much to press and, at that time, hardcore punk wasn't very popular. In the end, we released a 10 song 7" on green vinyl about 1998 on our own label. It sold fairly well and was very well recieved by MRR, making one of the top ten lists. They asked for an interview and all that shit but at that point we had called it quits."

Out Cold - Goodbye cruel world

We are in 1989, in a small suburb of massachusetts (προφερεται Μασατσουτσετς), called Dracut. Four young kids start to play awful but straight from the heart hardcoreFUCKINGpunk. Two of them were also part of the infamous band Worse than Useless. They started play with some real menace. Especially in some fucked-up years. Metal was starting overthrowing the hardcore scene and to play some old-school Negative approach meets Poison idea punk was "out of trend". These kids not only played this genre but they did it for 20 years!

Let's make a good fast-forward to the year 2004. Some of the original members have been out of the band while the first bassist of the band Mark Sheehan (formerly guitarist of GG Allin!) have already taken the vocal duties, behind drums we have also John Evicci while the guitar & bass goes to Deuce and Mikey Flynn (both from the great band called Last in Line). The band after a crazy tour in europe goes back to the studio to record "Goodbye cruel world". Fucking prophetic as it's the band's last full-lenght album.

But before we go to the core, i have to say that as i read their interviews in different zines i have to pay respect to one of the most honest and truelly great bands. And what a great spell of dedication when they say : "Unfortunately, most of the bands are broken-up now but that's the great things about records : They endure long after the people who made them". And fuck yeah, Out Cold are missed.

So, let's go the album. The first guitar riff is opening the gates of hell while the maniac drumming skills of mr.Evicci gives "take as needed for pain" the extra credit for what is really is, a track about drugs and for drugging speed freaks. While some of the album's tracks deals with misanthropy ("misanthrope"), isolation / solitude, human stupidity and back-stubber attitude ("i feel the death on the back of me"). Tracks like "Doomsday guy" could easily be someone's soundtrack of his life with all the desperation within the human society. Well, the "Hello disaster" goes to more mid-tempo parts (Θα 'θελες μεγαλε, εδω η φαση ειναι παρ'τα στα μουτρα) and i have to stop right here 'coz i can go on forever..

The rip is from my buddie Sergeant Batguano. Man you are great, thanx again. Everytime i hear their stuff i recall your phrase : "this one is my favorite album as long as I'm not playing one of their others". This one have been released from Kangarro records in europe so go and get it.

This post is dedicated to my good friend K. His greatness has been aknowledged by Out Cold themselves by saying : "We would like to extend a huge thanks to K., who set up all the shows here in Greece and did a really good job holding everything together despite some unexpected shit".

I'm glad to continue where the previous post of 7inchcrust stopped. Hiatus. Hiatus was a crust / core band from liege, belgium. They released some of the most energetic and influential albums of all (crust) time in their brief history. But first i have to tell my own story of "fell-in-love" with hiatus. Read it or not, the download link is on the bottom.

Destroy me

Before thousands of years, Alex from Hibernation used to run a distro called "Drapetes tis siopis". There was a time with no internet, so all the distro news, 7inches etc was written by hand. If you were a good boy, sometimes alex sent over some great new albums for free (yeah, he was a "large" guy). Someday, i read in a new issue of his distro : "Hiatus. for many people this is the best crust band ever". I was shocked. What do you mean with the word best? I knew Doom and E.N.T and no-one else could be "the best". So, i ordered one copy from this cd re-release. It has the two last albums before the band fell in hiatus (hahaaahha) "The brain & El sueno de la razon produce monstruos" and has been released by Nabate records.

The sound is more technical than the first hiatus 7'' while the vocals remaining great doggy-shouting. The mixing of old Doom d-beat with metallic riffs makes this a classic and still nowadays i can't feel boring with these Hellgians, not for one single second. The first 8 tracks is "the brain" 12'' and you can compare it easily to Skew whiff (two of the hiatus members continue the legacy), track 9 is a rehearsal and the rest is from "El sueno...". If you are lucky enough buy this cd. It comes with a huge booklet foul of pics of the band, posters from that era, lyrics and a great euro-tour review in two languages (english and french). The guys were drunk all the fucking time. And yes, i can say THIS IS THE BEST CRUST BAND EVER.

Drugged SS - I hate what you think about my life (tape)

Yeah, i was looking for this tape (fuck yeah another tape) for a while. I finally ordered some copies from a norway-based distro and i payed a bunch of fucking euros. Thankfully this tape deserves it. As my tape-player has no line-in/line-out, i have not been able to rip it. Thanx to http://suckdicksforfun.blogspot.com/ who sent me the rip.

Here we have three insane (unsane and mentally deranged) norwegians trying to play hardcore punk. I'm saying trying 'coz i'm not sure if their intention was to play ugly and uncompromising hardcore than fucked-up black metal. I don't care and you shouldn't too, 'coz the guys mixing it so fucking good. They remind me the s/t 7'' of Forced Expression mainly due to the raging tempos, the short tracks, the clever tricks in guitar and the blistering vocals. Six tracks on 4 minutes and 54 seconds. The recording is decent enough for a rehearsal (i guees it's a rehearsal. The "booklet" gives no infos). Check out the second track "enfants terribles" with this sick sludgy bridge on 18 second. Ugly...
Also, the band is part of the Black Hole Crew alongside Okkultokrati and Haust and hates swedish music.

This tape has been released by Ormeyngel records (blame Lars - a member of okkultokrati) and if you have a PayPal-account don't hesitate to order some copies for your friends. You can also give 'em as a gift while you had to write on the card "I hate what you think about my life". A great gift, indeed.

This is hardcore. Raw, ugly and hateful!

Drugged SS come from Norway and they are darker than almost every black metal band that came out the homeland of black metal the last years! It is a dark time that we live in, so dark is the music.

The sound is very raw and primitive, the vocalist spits blood and guts, the songs are short and sharp.

Είναι πολύ περίεργο συναίσθημα να προσπαθήσεις να περιγράψεις τον ήχο ενός συγκροτήματος, το οποίο συμπαθείς και θεωρείς φίλους (τουλάχιστον ένα απ'τά υποκείμενα που το αποτελούν). Θα βάλω τα δυνατά μου.

Μιλώντας συχνά πυκνά με τον Δημήτρη (κιθάρα σε black trinity / Go filth go) δεν μπορώ να κρύψω την συμπάθεια μου προς τη μπάντα και αυτό όχι για μουσικούς λόγους. Νοιώθοντας ότι μοιραζόμαστε κοινά εδάφη, τρόπους επικοινωνίας, ιδεολογικά και πολιτικά πεδία καθώς και αγάπη για την αυτοοργάνωση και την καλή μουσική (θα αφήσω τις ταμπέλες έξω για λίγο) νομίζω πως δε θα είμαι αντικειμενικός με αυτούς τους μπουγατσαδες από το Κοτζι city.

Εδώ, λοιπόν, έχουμε να κάνουμε με την πρώτη κασέτα (ναι, βγαίνουν ακόμα) με τίτλο “no escape from noise dis-truction” που πρόσφατα οι συμπαθέστατοι θεσσαλονικείς κυκλοφόρησαν. Με το τεράστιο πνεύμα τον Confuse να κυριαρχεί αυτά τα νόθα παιδιά του γιαπωνέζου Cal (aka Kawakami) κατάφεραν να ακούγονται φρέσκοι και πολύ δυνατοί. Συνδυάζοντας τα καλύτερα στοιχεία των Discharge, Disclose και Contrast attitude με ολίγη από Disable δηλαδή αυθεντικό “γαμώ-τη-μανά-σου-DBEAT” με κιθάρες πιο βρώμικες και από ένα Morbidangel-ικο βόθρο (γίνεται απλά : παίρνεται το πιο φτηνό guitar-distortion, το πιο φτηνό ενισχυτή των 15 watt και τα βάζετε όλα στο 10 για να μη πω στο 11. Η συνταγή αυτή βρίσκεται επίσης στον πρώτο δίσκο των Entombed. Nicke Anderson’s τσελεμεντές, εκδόσεις Clandestine, έτος 1989.)

Επίσης θέλω να σταθώ στα φωνητικά της μπάντας. Ο man πίσω απτό μικρόφωνο τυχαίνει (?) να έχει τα καλύτερα copy-paste φωνητικά του πλανήτη. Εδώ να υπογραμμίσω ότι το λέω αυτό με θετική χροιά. Ακούγοντας ειδικά τα φωνητικά του με black trinity θεωρώ ότι ούτε ο nocturnο culto μπορεί να κάνει πλέον τόσο καλά τα – ιδία του – τα φωνητικά όποτε καταλαβαίνετε λοιπόν ότι ούτε ο Kawakami (πόσο μάλλον ο Tsoukasa) θα είχε πρόβλημα (μάλλον θα σιγονταρει άπ'τον επουράνιο θρόνο του). Τέλος, ο ίδιος άνθρωπος βρίσκεται πίσω απτό dis-or-die.blog οπότε τσεκάρετε το και αφήστε του μηνύματα και παραγγελίες της εν λόγο κυκλοφορίας ή επικοινωνήστε με τη μπάντα στο mail : gofilthgo@live.com

Η κασέτα κυκλοφόρησε πρόσφατα και μπορείτε να την βρείτε σε χίλια δυο όμορφα μέρη η να επικοινωνήσετε απευθείας με την μπάντα. Περιέχει 13 κομμάτια "χορευτικού" hardcore με διασκευές σε Discharge και Disclose (πως και έτσι?). Οπότε μη χάνεται χρόνο.

Τέλος, να πω και το παράπονο μου. Έχοντας δει 2 φόρες live τη μπάντα έχω να πω πως παρότι είναι καταπληκτικοί και πολύ δεμένοι, τα set υπερβαίνουν κατά πολύ τη μια ώρα κάτι που κουράζει συνήθως. Μάγκες κάντε κάνα 35 λεπτό set-ακι ώστε ο κοσμάκης να φωνάζει ρυθμικά το όνομα σας (sic) και αφού δε θα κάνετε encore γιατί δεν είστε τίποτα φλορούμπες, θα περιμένει καρτερικά την επόμενη συναυλία……

Invasion - discography

Yeah, right : Destino final, finally will come to town(s). 24 & 25 of september athens and thessaloniki will feel their grounds shaking and huge volcanos will pop-up when the mountains eventually turn to grey. But before that, it was Invasion. I kindly requested d. (guitarist of black trinity / Go filth go) to sit his ass down and write a proper review about these spanish dudes. He said : "Yeah, why not? Do i have a dealine?" and after 12 hours he sent a ball-breaking review in FifteenCounts headquarters. Enjoy him (and Invasion).

Old school: two words that I really really love to use!
Also two words that I never used when I was talking about Spanish bands the last few years. Fortunately Invasion came to change this!
Here we have the previous band of the vocalist and guitarist of Destino Final. They released a demo and two LP’s. Destino Final is a great band that I like very much and I really wanted to listen to the Invasion stuff too. So, Mike gave me the chance and here I am. And I am very pleased with what I listened to!
Invasion played true old school punk! With the right sound and attitude! Simple song structure, but it has it all! Great riffs, kicking up-tempo drums, delayed spitting vocals. Nothing odd, no exaggerations. Just punk! Everything is where is needed to be. Less is more, as we say…
But what’s really good after all is that they manage to have a quite personal sound. I mean, you can see their influences, but all filtered perfectly in their sound. There are some old Swedish and Finnish punk influences, some late 70’s punk along with some Stooges and G.B.H., some Japanese (their spirit is burning alright!) and also a bit of old school metal for the final touch.
A plus (for me at least) is the fact that they keep their music close to politics.
I got to tell you. I love the raw sound of the instruments, the ultra-delayed vocals (reminded me a lot of the Hellhammer demos) and the evil laughters of the vocalist here and there, the energy and the darkness! And after you finish listening to their records (and you are a bit sweaty because you were banging the whole time) you instantly get the thought “Ah, it would be great to watch them live!”
Hopefully, we can do this with Destino Final. They still play a couple of Invasion songs live (their sound hasn’t changed much), so that’s just great!

Last days i find my self in a spiritual nirvana. Lately i'm so obsessed with weird (for me) music styles like stoner rock or even sludge (i'm sick, doc.) reminds me the first days as a "university" student, back then i was loving the first two Spiritual beggars albums and the "In the mushroom" cd of LID. Nowadays i discovered 16 (holy shit), Laughing hyenas (they are weird, aren't they?) and witchcraft. On the other hand i have to listen one time per day (pharmacy's prescription) Poison idea's "Feel the darkness" and Out cold's "Permanent twillight world" (Oh my god, i haven't done a single post about OUT COLD).

But, what the hell i'm talking about? If the hell could speak in tongues, it's name would be WARHEAD :

So, warhead is one of the most underrated bands from japan. When everyone talks about Gauze and Stupid babies go mad (???) here's the real deal. Hailing from a city outside Osaka called Kyoto these punks have released one lp, two seveninches and a split 7'' while they have a 4 way split with DSB, Zone and Extinct Government. they have toured uk and usa (with Tragedy if i'm not mistaken) and they have write some of the best thrashy songs.

Raging thrashy hardcore / crust. If you wanna hear a madman who drunk some shinning nails you have to hear this. Do you need anything else?

Decrepit - discography cd

Decrepit was a crust-core band from seattle, active from 1994 to 1999 (i think so). In their brief history they released a 12'' lp, a self titled 7'', and some split 7''s.

While i was reading Lo-res viscera blog i misunderstood his Decrypt post with Decrepit. Decrepit came like natural in my mind, so i thought this is a good way to say "have some nice vacations guys, 'coz i'll certainly have! starting tomorrow - see you in september". Sweeten things up, i added - again - a cool pic of the band.

As i have already wrote decrepit was from seattle including members of Whorehouse of representatives (a great band too), Whipped, Cease and desist. Later on the mighty Consume also. Jim plays bass on Deathraid nowadays (great guy).

So, if you wanna hear some crazy crust-meets-grind tornado, here's your new favorites. Decrepit is one of the most vicious, fast, catchy crust band of all time. Imagine a drummer that when he was a baby his mother instead of milk gave him galons of gas so now he destroys sidewalks with his sticks. Very impressing "players" when it comes to the "game" aka grindy-fucking-crust. they have some great lyrics dealing mostly with politics (call me : ageism, elitism, pacifism, militarism, homophobia, and the God myth). I can describe them as more extreme Disrupt-meets-Resist group.

Extra tip is that in the thanx list of this cd they include Agrinio's punx. First time i read this, i was laughing to death, knowing that agrinio is a small city in the centre of greece, full of moody weather and active punks (not the all-day drinking type of think-or just back in the day). So, i had a conversation with one of the agrinio guys that arrange them and said me that Decrepit and Detestation were the best guys they have ever meet (from the amount of crust bands that have visit greece in the late '90s). They had stayed in agrinio for three days, drinking tsipouro in the old-school cafe of the city among dirty farmers (imagine 60 years old guys seeing some crusty dudes with patches etc...lol).

I know that the good friend batguano loves them and you can read some things about'em in his blog here.

And one friend of mine still ows me my Decrepit t-shirt, i "loaned" him - back in the day - with those gas-masks...aaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! (mmmm, and a disrupt cover, did i mention that?)

Deathreat - The Severing of the Last Barred Window... Plus Early Tracks 97-99

It's a weird feeling when you wake up and you know that you saw Deathreat in your sleep (a live concert). Good or bad? I don't know, but i'm searching the blog for this band and i can't find any. So, it is time...

Travelling back in time we go to 1996. A shit-playing band called His hero is gone (Fifteencounts...remember?) has already "died". Some members go to form other bands. The burdette brothers moved on and from memphis go to portland. Deathreat started. So simple...

Speaking with todd for a little bit (as far as my english allowed me to..) when Tragedy came in greece for three gigs, i got the impression that the guy doesn't do just gigs but he lives for it. You can see the blood boiling inside him and his eyes going mad while every single word coming outta his mouth like a kalashnikof shoot. And when the gig is over is so calm and friendly and all these stuff making me wonder "how is it doing it", the "grandpa" fucker. Check an interview of tragedy here by the way.

Let's start with a family tree of the band known as Deathreat. Here we go : On guitars we have Paul burdette (well-known as a great drummer!) and Stan Wright. On Drums we have Todd burdette (well-known as a terryfic(!!!!) guitarist). Brad boatright on bass and Billy Vavies on vocals...
These guys have been in the diy scene for centuries with bands such as : His hero is gone, Tragedy, Signal lost, From ashes rise, Lebanon, Call the polise, Copout, Criminal damage, Severed head of state, Warcry, Trauma and No parade. And please name me one mediocre band of the above mentioned, not bad, just mediocre. It does not exist. All their bands were great. So it is DEATHREAT.

My first exposure to their sonic ear damaging was five years ago when i buyed their cd reissue of "the severing of the..." (this cd you'll download - the rip is from my physical copy) from Partners in crime records runned by billy davies (yes, the vocalist). While i was excepting clearly neo-crust full of great riffs and drums, melodramatic lyrics and acid-drenched vocals i was shocked 'coz i had to deal with simple-played hardcore!

Mixing all their influences from japanese thrashy hardcore to old-school american hardcore punk (i discovered Koro through their cover to the"Dear sirs" track) while some tracks ("who counts the bodies") reminds me the solid scandi scene. I'll have the sweet pleasure to see your ears pieced from within. Fast d-beat, great riffs and simple-angry vocals. and some skate-boards photos on the back. Great tracks like "Pay no mind", "First world imposition" or "Bodies pilled higher..." can't be recorded or written every-single-day. This is a masterpiece guys. 38 tracks in 36 minutes. Fuck yeah.
Even if i firstly was unsure if my buying skills was once more awful, three months later i put on this cd on my stereo and i felt a punch in the face. Speechless...

This cd contains the 1997's Lp "the severing...", the split with Talk is poison from 1999, the self titled 7'' from 1998 and the split with D.S.B (same period). Prepare to hear who the fuck all these "cult" raw hardcore bands nowadays have ripped the hell off. Guittars, sounding etc comes from Deathreat.
If you know them already and you have this one already, guess what. I don't give a fuck.

White Male Dumbinance - Forced Vengeance 7''

I'm no big fan of powerviolence, that's for sure, but sometimes you have to recognise the power and genious of a band, even if the genre is not "worth dying for". Borrowing their name from the classic B.G.K album White male dumbinance is (was?) a great hardcore act from Newcastle, new south wales, australia. In this 7'' that have been released in 2008 they deliver twelve tracks of ferocious and pissed-off hardcore punk for fans of Charles bronson, Infest or Mind Eraser. Blastbeats just fills up the great riffs and the insane vocals, while the mid-tempo parts make you wonder "is it going to come in my head?". Add a crazy cover to INFEST's "why don't you" and political lyrics that deals with anti themes. They have released also a demo and a split with Masstrauma (and if you start begging in front of me i'll post them). Members have also been in the following bands : Arms Reach, Life.Love.Regret, The Dead Walk!, Conation (great!) and Captain Cleanoff! (greater!!).

I found a great text in the band's my(as)space and i think is much more useful to read it than read my own words. I'm still excited with bands that have something to say. by the way you propably will hear this 7'' 3-4 times 'till you finnish reading................

Digger barnes - Time Has Come

Everything has its ''Time''. Even the most pequliar things, and the extraordinary changes may happen to you...when their ''Time has come'' that is...!
If someone told me two years ago i'd be listening to a german guy singing about his shoes and about smelling ponnies in true american redneck accent, while playing hillbilly country on a banjo i'd most certainly shut his yaphole with a good old fashioned uppercut. But ''Time'' she is a harsh mistress and always gets what she wants in the end...

Digger is no stranger to the punk/crust underground. At least for those of you who remember one certain band called Jeniger, and their athenian live gigs in Villa Amalias at 2000 and 2001 respectfully (αν έχει συμπληρώσει την diy δικογραφία σωστά ο punk εισαγγελέας Στάθης!). ''Time'' then demanded more violent musical outbrakes from this young deutchlander...

Pluralism is the symptom of the lightheaded, so there is no need to repeat that ''Time'' takes things in her own matters, and changes you according to her will. Apparently for Digger, this meant mellowing his tunes out, but the punk stays in him. Don't expect pityfull lovesongs on this LP, but catastrophological lullabies about preachers preaching the end of the world, sweet songs about sweet murderers, and tails of the suffocating desert and its snakes against an armed with a golden gun woman.

But Digger has his light side too with gentle songs about his missing pony, about those special brown boots that take you places...Digger is also the pat in the back, and the good voice telling you to take care.

This is an all-weather LP...whether you're at some distant beach, letting the cool summer-night breeze flow around you, or whether you are gazing through the window holding a warm cup of coffee after sleeping at a friendly house (cause the heavy rain never let you leave). This record speaks to the heart in awkward and warm ways!

Digger has previously released the ''Trailer Tapes'' on tape (duh!), and two 7'' ''Digger and Allie'', as well as the ''My name is Digger''.
Accompanying Digger visually is the very good graphic designer Pencil Quincy.

Amebix - Redux

I don't know why i really post this 12'' that is already everywhere on the net. Reviews, downloads, merch etc. I may owe this to myself. I have been raised as a crustypunk (not an a exception to the majority of crusties) with music influences like Hiatus, Doom, Active minds, Detestation, Positive/Negative and Amebix. As far as i'm concerned Amebix was not the creators of a new genre or playing-quality masterminds. No, for me amebix was that. Was the fire that burned slowly in the dark, the most hateful word from the most ugly tongue. Amebix was IT.

After 23 years (notice that their last album "monolith" was released in '87) the 2/3 of the original line-up decided to re-record some already classics as a first taste to an upcoming proper album with brand new songs. Rob "The Baron" Miller and his brother Stig joined up with new drummer Roy Mayorga (who is also the producer/recorder of this 12'' while the mastering was made by rodney Mills). Also roy mayorga was a member of Stone Sour and Soulfly and this is really strange for Amebix to hire a professional drummer, but let's not forget that Mayorga got his start with Nausea, who – along with Amebix – are probably amongst the top five most noted bands associated with the "crust punk" genre. When i first heard that, i had a reaction like many other guys (i guess) : "you are amebix, why you have to do that. You are not Judas priest, you don't need it". Even if i don't have the answer on that question yet, i have to admit that this ep (12'' on 45rpm to be more specific) is a fucking killer.

Two days now and i can't put it off my stereo. For those who can afford to listen every part of the Amebix's legacy, metal-one and punk-one as a friend once stated : if you want to know if a guy is a punk or a metal-head you should ask him what album does he prefers. Arise or monolith? If he say arise he is a punk, if he says monolith he is a fucking metalhead. Even if i prefer monolith, this ep makes a good work overall and you have to check it out, especially if you don't like the re-record shit - it might change your opinion.

First track is the best amebix track ever (for me) : Arise.
The recording is great making the guitars so fucking sharp, the bass is heavy but wellheard while the great tupa-tupa of the new drummer is awesome. The voice of The Baron has become by the years a little bit "broken" and sounding like a demonic-witch spelling some real bad curses ("The Baron's voice is bound to be compared to Lemmy's growl. But, where Lemmy seems to perpetually have a wad of mucous and glass spinning in his throat, The Baron spits the bile out, letting his inflection twist and churn as it crawls into your ears"). Especially the voice gives the whole recording an Evil touch, especially when baron "sings" :
"We will set out with a fire in our hearts
When this darkness gives way to the dawn
In the light we're united as one
For the kingdom of heaven must be taken by storm!
ARISE! GET OFF YOUR KNEES!"

Second track is winter (released in 1983 as a 7'') :
Best re-recording of this session. If the original one was simple haunting this one is apocalyptic. The tight sound had made it a truelly war theme, a fucking hymn. Trumpets of death and the four horsemen of the apocalypse in the northern part of nowhere:
"This is the season of the fire, this is when the reaper crawls.
Feed the flames and make them higher.
No sanctuary behind four walls.
Red sky at night, the shepherds delight but nothing left by the morning.
WINTER"

Third one and last track is Chain reaction.
a song that has been sang from so many mouths. Has been a logo and briefly a state of mind. I can say that is the only not so powerful track of this session. They put on it a lot of synths that made it more atmospheric.

While august is coming, i think some good vacations are everything that i really need. Winter's - from time to time - job gave me the opportunity to save some money and use'm as a back-up to live my life - or just some days of it - as a free-camper in a magnificent greek island.
As i returned from Paxos, where i was drinking my hand-made frappe (cold greek-origin's coffe) with my pals while listening some old-school Rita Sakelariou outside our tents and the sun was painting our bodies dark brown and guess what : no topless girls!
I wish i had some death side with me, or Slang, or Mind eraser.
So i'll give you two albums for your vacations and your listening pleasures.

The previous review on straightjacket nation was in the worst-5 of the blog so i owe a good one this time.
Straightjacket was a hardcore band from melbourne that changed their name to Straightjacket Nation (featuring members of great aussie bands like Far left limit) due to the already existence of two different bands with the same name. While i was bollocking (haha!) on the net i fell into a SN interview from 2006. Wow, i said with the things i read. Drug addicts, fanzine owners, yellow teeth smilers and hardcore (give notice : hardcore) punkers. What else do you want?

I remember when i first read an interview in mountza fanzine with one of the SN guys that also runs Distort fanzine. These guys have opinion and they're not afraid to express it. They talk about all the fucked-up modern hardcore scene, the consumerism and tough guy stupidity that lies within.

"The entire hardcore scene suffers from a paucity of thinking, so it’s no wonder that most interviews are fucken boring. Second of all, I think the reason that bands don’t have much to say in interviews is because they’re actually not saying very much as a band. There’s a huge difference between hardcore bands who play hardcore and hardcore bands who are hardcore.
I’m an overly analytical person by nature, I always have been, and I think part of being hardcore and punk to me has been to question and understand feelings like “anger, desperation, isolation”, etc., not just perform them or romanticise them."

Yeah, speaking about music. Fast, fast, fast, no grooves, no mosh-parts, fast / hardcore punk. Fuck, i like them so fucking much. Tracks seems to builting up in the old way, riffs thrown away, drums all over the place, bass lines from a jihad maniac. Later, they go for rehearsal and this chaotic manifesto seems to work really fine. Using as a background simply outraged punk rock riffs and true feeling they channel their forces into apocalyptic in-your-face simply addicted music. And as my companion dbill has already written : "Straightjacket Nation play pure pissed off 80's american hardcorepunk, the way no greek band will ever get close to play, and this is really sad to admit...fuck....".

Here you'll get their cheap kicks Lp from 2008 and a collection of 7'' (that contains a great punk-rock cover to The Saints). Ha, not bad. I have say it before and i'll say it again.
Straightjacket nation plays hardcore as it should be played.

Also, one of the tracks is called "herdcore", and the explanation is :
"Herdcore is just a term I borrowed from Inside Front fanzine to describe bands and people who use the term ’hardcore’ to describe what they’re doing, but offer the most weak, spineless fucking trash, both musically and in the ideas they’re encouraging. Just this weak scene of shoe gazing sycophantic fucking herbs with the same style and thought processes. Herbcore is another accurate term."

Yes, i know. The summer has hit you in the head really bad. You want something powerful and strong to shake you off really hard and that's not mojito, i guess. You propably want some old Monster 'coz their later rocking thing bores you to death or maybe you want some old good Bombenalarm.
You are propably thinking, "what that cunt says! these fuckers are gone for good". Propably you got right, but i got a hidden ace in my sleeve (a lot of motorhead here!). It's name NAILS!

Get two Monster guys on drums and bass, the guitarist of Migra violenta and the voice of bombenalarm and the result will be a terrific hardcore punk explosion played in mid-tempo parts with great melodic riffs, amazing rhythm section and a very expressive voice speaking out some of the most dark and painful lyrics. Solitude and despair in this piece of wax, that's one of the best 7'' i recently heard. Imagine tracks such as "Black hope" or "The curse" (bombenalarm's) but more dark and great.

"I am so into their games, oh boy.
and i have learnt all their rules

all my nerves burn like fire and just see

Amazing hardcore punk that if you are already familiar with monster and bombenalarm you know what to except. If i had to judge it i'll certainly give it 9/10. Thanx goes out to mosh eisley blog that has sent it to me in the first place!

I have to say that i was starting be a little bit jealous about "song of the week" section of the fugitive equilibrium blog and i wanted to start it over here too, but then i thought that i can't reach bat's crazy opinions, so the second thought was a very good mix-tape.

While i was travelling from the capital city to my hometown, some compilation cassette (mix-tape as dbill likes to say) come to my mind. As the trip was way too long (7 hours, mates) i was starting to put the bands of the comp in line. At least, before my village-arrival and the turn-on of my pc. S.(vocalist of antimob) had left me a very good comment and suddenly everything fall apart in my head. I had to write it all from the start.
Some days ago, S had a fucking serious accident. His room ceiling fell down in pieces (over 4 tones weight) in his room, fortunately he wasn't indoors, so he is still around us. A good friend is not dead so this mix-tape is a gift to one of the best vocalist and smiling guys of the greek hardcore scene... Forgive me for the "inside" jokes, guys.

1. Shit hit the fan - Change
First track and what a better intro than a melodic punk song from one of the best hardcore/punk/post bands of the early 90's. Great lyrics from the pioneers of the "hardline" diy approach (i'm a big fan of this approach) of the greek underground. check also this one.
"Nobody's gonna save us from the chains."

2. The wipers - Doomtown
As S. once told me : "Man, this band plays melancholic punk rock. now, how that's can be happening, i don't know but they do it." Amazing rainy portland punk with one of the most expressive vocalist. Drop virus's fave. song.

3. Anti-cimex - Game of the arseholes
I first heard this one as a Napalm death's cover (weird, ha?). Still nowadays, i can say that noone reach their excellent and powerful sound. "Καλα ρε μαλακα, σου εσπασε το anti-cimex?" ΗΑΗΗΑΗΑΗΗΑ

4. Doomtown - Never believe
Ha, what we have here? Burial's Fabian (here plays bass) with his "paying-respect-to-the-Wipers" band Doomtown. this one is close to Burial's type of playing but it's fucking good. (one more great band that i didn't reach to see live a few years ago, fuck)

5. Deus ex machina - Iraq'n'roll
I think the title speaks for itself. Written in '92 and released as the b-side of the 7'' "execute" this track has great backing vocals, great riffs, great bridges and great lyrics. Great in general. Gulf war - children dies....

6. Skew whiff - Vertigo
If you don't know already, skew whiff features two guys from the legendary belgians Hiatus and this track is the perfect example of the "Brain" 12'' legacy. Crusty punk with amazing d-beat chorus and sci-fi riff....

7. Amebix - Largactyl
It was time for a classic. I think everything that could been told about amebix is already told. Even if i prefer monolith this one is dedicated to amebix's first drummer that lost his mind in england's mental hospitals (as hundreds of people in uk in the 80's) due to enormous doses of a medicine called Largactyl. "Relax. it's only paranoia".

8. Agathocles - Cheers mankind cheers
I didn't do it by purpose but this one is also for people in mental hospitals. Music wise, this is by far my favourite agathocles's song. Mincecorers playing hardcore punk, up-tempo and funny (type of...)

9. Aus-rotten - The system works for them
How many times i felt embarassing due to this one. It's strange to caught yourself screaming in the bus "Boycott" and suddenly to understand that everyone staring at you!!! Great lyrics. and a question : How the fuck Dave Trenga remembers all that lyrics (that he writes)? The crazy fucker. Anarcho-crust up our asses.

10. Tear it up - Everybody hates me
I know you love them... So, straight-into-your-face...

Τα λογια ειναι περιττα as a greek pop song says... Japan's massive killing machine Judgement will chop-off your genitals with their sharp-knife riffs and howling vocals...

12. Out cold - Hidden agenda
Holy god of war, if you listen me make your sons play again... From boston comes death.

13. Goulag - Sarkovoro arni
The title can be translated as Carnivorous lamp! Third track from a greek band in this "tape". Late 80's - early 90's punk rock with great riffs and anti-war message. Don't be confused with Goulag from spain.

14. Poison idea - Taken by surprise
Set some polls and voting stuff for the best hardcore album of all time,99% Poison idea's "feel the darkness" would be the answer. I can remember bassist of antimob to play it on a party for three times in a row. Awesome track from a heavy "heavy" band.

15. Down in flames - Waging a war
My personal favourite from all the 625 records releases and the most underestimated. Dbill used to say it "stop and go" hardcore (is this description correct? i ask myself), i call it unstoppable hardcore to make boys cry for good... discography here

16. D.S.-13 - Watch out
S. wanted "vi skatar..." but i choose "watch out" - same lp, dude. Happy (let's laugh) hardcore from a band from umea, sweden, even if the sound reminds boston. hahahha.

17. Antimob - In front of the machines
I've said before that antimob is one of the best hardcore bands globally and this is their most beloved track between fans. Great slow-snake intro till the old-man takes the mic and shout his lungs out, "workers gathered in front of the machines". Good to have you among us stathaki.

Gattaca & Clamant! - split 12"

Some weeks ago i was checking masakari's blog and i saw a post about a czech band called Gattaca. While i was searching about some "compressed" music of them so i can have my own opinion, i received an e-mail from honza, a member of Gattaca. Holy shit, i shout and start to reading his email with anxiety.
Well, honza sent me their new and unreleased (yet) album for review and sharing. Thanx honza a lot, and keep in mind that i want a copy from the vinyl when it will come out.

Gattaca comes from czech republic with members of Dakhma, Lakme and Nidal, while Clamant! hails from mexico featuring members of Our bastard existence and Liberate (not the jap-ones).

I can say that i don't know so much things about Clamant! except that they are vegans and anarchists and they are against any type of drugs. Music wise they remind me Envy mixing up Crimethink-sound. Imagine Catharsis but way less chaotic. I can say it emo with screamo vocals and mid-tempo parts. Although, it's not my cup of tea i think they're good for what they're doing.

On the other hand we have Gattaca :
"gattaca started in 2009 as a three piece side project of members of a vegan sxe band AbstinentiA and former members of Nidal (political metal hardcore band really dedicated to animal liberation issues). In this line up a demo was recorded. Than in July 2009 when Dakhma (where Gattaca guitarist played) broke up, other Dakhma member joined on second guitar and a friend joined on vocals. The second guitar was added to a demo and we started playing shows. In december 2009 we recorded 4 songs for a split LP with Clamant! with which we were in contact since times of Dakhma and Lakmé (older band of the new Gattaca guitarist). We recorded it ourselves in our rehearsal room. We played some shows in Czech republic during the year and last week we made a short trip to Slovakia, Slovenia and Austria. Since some of us are teachers we can't tour too much. We are influenced by many bands and ideas. You can hear it from our music that we really like dis/beat, but as well we love diy emo/hc or old 90s hardcore."

They remind me a lot modern crustcore influenced by bands like Zann, his hero is gone and Perth express or even the dagda. They got that crazy long-riffs and heavy vocals and great drumming. I just wanted a little more distorted guitar. Last but no least i must say that i like gattaca due to their approach to the "scene". They are not "another" crust band, but a political one, that knows where it stands and why. They use music as a weapon to spread their lyrics and way of life and not as a trend or a "lifestyle".

"The most important thing for us is that the music that we like has something more inside than just music. message, diy approach or passion that you can feel. I'd say that we are a political band, when we feel it, we speak between songs, we carry books in our distro etc., all of us are vegans. But we try to stay away from preaching. That's something about us, haha. We're five people, boys and girls."

Midnight - Berlin is burning 12"

Some days ago V. (drummer of Beginning of the end) sent me a review of blackpunk'n'roll's masterpiece "berlin is burning". I'm so excited that guys get themselves into troubles for the blog (or just waste their time...). The only thing i'll add is that Midnight is the best blackened punk band nowadays, playing live shows wearing full-faces and leather jackets while their guitarist used to play for Annihilation time, Satanic threat and Nunslaughter.
Kick it off, V. :

"Here we have Midnight, a real black and roll juggernaut.
They come from Cleveland,Ohio and formed in 2003.
This release is a compilation, that contains the 2003 and 2004 demos, along with one new song.

I've been listening to this band some months now and I can say for sure that we are talking about an extra-spectacular Motorhead-meets-Hellhammer Worshiping Band.
They will unleash hell upon your place from the moment you will push the play button and the sound will come out of your speakers.

The production is a little lo-fi, cause most of these songs are demos, but gets the job done in an excellent way and it really adds up to their occult aesthetic. You can still hear everything and at the same time you get what is good about old-school blackened speed metal.
It will shake you hard!

Now to the tracks, "Berlin is burning" is the master of the game, great riffage great solos and a catchy chorus.
Personally I liked a lot "hot graves", with its uptempo feeling
and "long live death" with its slow muddy groove.Also the D-beat qualities of "Turn up the Hell" can't go unnoticed.

Badass guitar riffs, cursed drumming and satanic vocals...
What can really go wrong?

I can't remember the last time. Yeah, right. the last time.
When you got sharp and long wolves-teeth and you bite everything around you. Let's sharpen our teeth and eat some flesh while listen some A' class japcore.

I can still remember the first time i've listened to these punks. A couple of years ago, i was taking the subway to go for my wine-class. While i was waiting i pushed play on my mp3-player, when a tight bombing sound scratch my ears. Looking left and right to be sure : Sub hasn't hit me... Yep, Organism's fist. my ears...

Organism comes from Osaka, japan and the legend says that they might have some connection to the bands Warhead (one of the next posts, folks), Nightmare and Acrostix and not only music influences. Things are simple. Power, energy and energy and power!
The sound is solid as fuck and keeps you jumping like a lunatic in your room while your speakers shouting paranoid and unintelligible words in a bellicose language.
The title of the album is Hope and i really doubt if you can find any in here.
All tracks counts 1-2 minutes, the drumming is unstoppable having the guitar back-ups to shred everything up while the bass is heavy as a japanese sumo fighter. And the vocals are dual!
Don't except chelsea's hot riffs and solos, neither saxophones. This is fast as fuck, powerful hardcore punk. This is war. This is "how it's should be played". Raging, raging, raging.
Plus : this 12'' have been released from a small label named Hardware records, known for it's great releases. Few but great, including burial / antimob split.

Disharmonic - A Life Without Regrets

Some weeks ago Apostolis (vocalist of Disharmonic) asked me if I could post their last (and final) album "A life without regrets". Even if I was a little bit thoughtful due to personal issues about diy and the rest (yeah, i'm a little bit stubborn - or just old-school-way-of-thinking-fucker - and i don't think diy bands must play club and bar shows, but that's an other conversation) i've chosen to post their album mainly due to my class consciousness (apostolis and i work together occasionally, plus he is a good guy).

Disharmonic started back in 2001 in volos, and they released in their "brief" history two demos ("Kick over the traces" & "Unholy remains"), a mini-cd ("By your side") and this album. In their first steps, these pioneers of the huge volos hardcore scene (let's laugh...) used to play a mixture of hardcore with death metal. While the years pass the sound has changed, more modern hardcore listening i guess. The band have played a lot of shows all around greece and after their hiatus some members formed Ruined families (check out their euro-tour dates), Faithreat and Do something now! (a hell of a straight-edge name, ha?).

Their sound consisting of huge Stampin' ground and (later-) Kafka elements (that's what i listen here) plus some thrashy guitars and you get the picture. Their mid-tempo parts reminds me a lot "A new darkness upon us" from Stampin' ground and i think that's the strong point of the band. When they try to play faster the whole thing gets fucked up. I don't know, maybe it's the sound that i can't stand (full of NYHC stuff) or the drummer isn't dave lombardo, or.... I don't want to be a cruel jerk but this type of hardcore it's for sure not my cup of tea, but on the other hand you can check it out - maybe it's just me.

Highscore & The now denial - split 7''

While i got some dbill's promises about some writing for Okkultokrati, Naytia etc i just got - once again - his balls. AAAAAAAAAGGGGGRRRRRR. So, let's get one more new post. And i got some good stuff for you in the next posts. finland, japan and greece included. Today's topic : Breaking neck while jumping from a window. Yes, hardcore punk can easily kill...

Released as a benefit 7'' for the imprisoned protestors of gothenburg riots, this wax captures excellent all the energy of these incredible hardcore bands. Highscore comes from Nordrhein-Westfalen while The now denial hailing from bremen. Two of the best bands from germany the last decade.
If you stopping by this blog you already know that these bands kick-asses (they kicked mine way too much times) really hard and you should be up for it.

First band is Highscore (nowadays some highscore's guys are playing in Short fuse). Fast, in your face hardcore from raging lovers of late-'80s us hardcore. Out cold meets poison idea and the party goes on. When i first listened "forces of evil" the opening vocals made me think i listen to some Sodom. hahaah. I think when you talk about fast hardcore punk all the words are fading away, so let the music speak for itself, shall we?
You must definitely check out their "Unsuspecting actors..." Lp.

On the other hand we have bremen's massive killing machine well known as the now denial. Maybe this is not the perfect N.D example 'coz the band has changed it's sound with every new release (every-fucking-one is unique and great) but the writing quality of these songs can't be compared. Mixing hardcore punk with some crusty and catchy riffs. Well, there not so many bands that can do this, guys. So simple...
All the tracks have been included also to the comp. cd "Obey, shut up...". And if you like check out their second lp Viva viva threatening.

Okkultokrati - no light for mass Lp (2010)

Some days ago i was chating with a friend that used to be in lund, a small town of sweden (known for great hardcore bands, like snifter and everyday madness, even some connection with intensity) to rent a house for his university's studies. He told me that if he stayed there certainly he would die from boredom and misery. If you are born and raised in a city like athens with fucking everyday's life intensity that drives you crazy (and you get crazy if you lose that intensity) for sure the green mountains of scandinavia could be a little bit annoying...

Moving from sweden to norway, here we have a band from oslo featuring members of hombre malo and haust. It's name : Okkultokrati. Four guys who have gained a lot of respect within the underground black metal and hardcore circles mainly for the way they approach these two genres. Scandinavia's daily life influences drives people do insane think i guess like forming great bands...

Wearing darkthrone shirts and playing hardcore punk would be, besides a great horror movie, the perfect description about those long-hair, tight-pants, dark guys. Imagine the first bathory's lp with celtic frost in a Poison idea feast.. Yeah, sure that's the case.. Punky in your face hardcore full of proto-black metal influences... Down-tuned guitars and mid-tempo drum-hitting creates a dystopian and at the same time sludgy environment. Some reverb adds some spicy taste (no influences from Destino final, or maybe not?)
Great fucking music and hateful lyrics from guys that lives in scandinavia, that is known for the huge suicide rates and extreme music tastes. A band that describes it's own existence under the "True norwegian metaphysical atheist black'n'roll" belt. So, if you wanna hear some good Black flag meets Darkthrone hardcore full of black metal elements "no light for mass" it's everything you want.

The funny think is that i tried to order some copies from ormeyngel but with no pay-pal. Ormeyngel very polite told me that they can't sent the stuff due to currency exchanges. So, when i told it to my good friend dbill, he answered me with a funky style: "Kala o Norvhgos to exei kapsei apo to polu kruo kai ton radienergo solwmo pou psareuoun!!! Pes tou na mas pei poso einai to poso, kai 8a tou ta valoume se Norvhgikes korwnes tou flwrou!....ti einai autoi oi Vorioi re malaka?!!!!....Kollhmena muala!!!!" HAHAHA.

Snifter - action... reaction! 7''

I think the year was '99 or '00. the phone rang and a good friend of mine - and the first person i ever saw with dreadlocks and patches, a very cool thing back in the day - said : "hey, come from my place. I have some 7'' that you might find interesting". Those seveninches was chupacabra's "Tired of talking to shadows" and some noisy mind-blowing shit from an unknown band called Snifter. He played me that stuff and got me so "unprepared". I run to a fellow shop to buy a casseette (i had no cd-recorder back then, guys) and started to record these two glorious 7'' (actually i recorded also jeniger's first 7''. haha - all my gratitude to alex from hibernation who sent me a physical copy of jeniger's "captured" 7'' back then. same era - full of memories). When i got home i played that goddamn tape, first thing, and started headbanging like crazy. Yeah, snifter was a killer band (later i found them in a cd complilation called "swedish hc comp" including great bands such as diskonto and e.n.s).who captures perfectly the late-90's sound of the diy hardcore scene. Actually, when you were young and other kiddos asked you what your favourite music and you keep on answering "hardcore punk" and they stared like the most stupid human beings in the world you propably had to say except Doom and Extreme noise terror also Snifter, "yeah, the sound i like is snifter's chainsaw-guitar".

This 7'' is a trully great example of d-beat heaviness, dual vocals one shouting - one yelling, heavy as hell bass-guitar and an old-school feeling (ακους μητσο?) with good and fancy artwork. On the front-cover you'll get a cop tie-up an activist with the word "action", and on the back-cover you'll get a cop-car full of bullet-holes and the kind word "reaction". Heavy political hardcore from one the most underrated bands of the late 90's. Some songs are on english and some on swedish. Did i mention some Infest influences ? (check an interview from 1997 here and their split with Yuppiecrusher)
The mastering has been made by jocke tack (also Kontrovers, intensity mastering's fame) so you know that the sound is killer.

Toamol - demo 2004

Some time ago, a great blog used to exist. It's name was suicidemilancity.blogspot. The chief in command was milan, a guy from serbia. Every now and then i was asking for tones of shit, if he has them, if he could post 'em (real nerd thing) and the rest. And someday milan told me to check out Toamol. So, this post is for milan, nowadays he runs the downsided blog. Man, thanx a lot...

Toamol (their perfect double 7inch is posted here) hails from Tunsberg, in the south-east of Norway and features ex-members of Kort process and Alltid jaget (another killer norway-based band). Toamol blends traditional late-8o's norwegian hardcore (like kort process and the fast parts of So much hate) alongside more modern crusty forms. Heavy and dark guitars borrowing stuff from early - heavy as hell - Neurosis as much as the sickening tightness of His hero is gone, even some thrashy parts (i'm talking more for the feeling in the sound) when they get from fast to faster while the vocals reminds me a straight-jacket lunatic in a panic crisis. The great thing about norway's scene is that every band is so unique, every band has it's own sound, something that i love, and i have to say it's the same thing that i'm totally bored-of the swedish stuff (for some weird reason the majority of swedish bands seems to copy-paste one another). Toamol gives you the impression that they put all their energy and love for what they're doing.
This demo lasts for 10 minutes. 10 minutes that you'll want to live it again and gain, again and again...
and as a friend of mine told me 20 minutes ago : "Καλα ρε μαλακα πως τα ακους αυτα, πρωινιατικα?"

Abra macabra - Death is certain. Life is not

Abra macabra was a band created in Athens on January of 2008 and finally disbanded on february of 2010. In their brief history they fonded of the dark and punk/post-punk sound back from the 80's till now. Moreover, Abra Macabra was a DIY band, willingly have chosen to self-organize their sound / word and support similar actions.
The copy i have on my hands is a "try" of their vocalist (fotis) to release their album (that won't be released as it should be, due to the already mentioned disband) so the tracks not be "lost" in time... 200 copies will be burnt and will be given hand-by-hand at squares, squats and friends in general against commercial shit and profit. If you’re lucky you’ll get one.
All the rest are in (fucking) greek or for (fucking) greeks, so use google (or some type of) translator.

Όταν πρωτοέβαλα αυτό το cd στο στερεοφωνικό μου, νομίζω το πρώτο συναίσθημα που ένοιωσα ήταν έκπληξη. Έκπληξη γιατί δεν περίμενα ποτέ πως κάποιοι dark-wave ήχοι θα με πόρωναν τόσο ώστε να τους βάλω στο repeat για να συνεχίσω να περιπλανιέμαι στα υπέροχα στενά της κόκκινης Μασσαλίας (βιβλίο του Maurice attia που συστήνω ανεπιφύλακτα) ανάμεσα σε σφαίρες που σφυρίζουν και πεζοδρομία που ξηλώνονται κάπου στο μακρινό ’68.
Σαν τέλειο soundtrack νουαρ μυθιστορήματος οι σκοτεινοί και παραπλανητικοί ήχοι τους είναι σαν ένα απλωμένο χέρι για μια νυχτερινή βόλτα που μόλις ξεκίνησε. Φτιάχνοντας αργά αργά μια ατμοσφαιρα βαναυση – εδώ να σημειωσω πως ο ηχος είναι αρκετα πιο up-tempo απ’το σύνηθες rebound-ικο new-wave το οποίο δουλεύει ιδανικά, τουλάχιστον για μένα – και ταυτόχρονα αδυσώπητη οι macabra σε μεταφέρουν σε πλανά από ταινίες του ν.νικολαιδη. Εκεί που οι καραμπίνες οπλίζονται σε αργά μπλουζ θέματα (παρτε για παραδειγμα το κομματι "mouths"), παρανοϊκά βλέμματα κεντράρουν κάτω από ερωτικά μπλουζ και μαύρες δαντέλες αποδεικνύονται θανατηφόρες.
Οι στίχοι αποστρέφονται κάθε τι που θυμίζει αυθεντία ρίχνοντας χολή για την κατανάλωση, τους κάθε λογής αφέντες καθώς και τη θρησκεία αλλά ταυτόχρονα αφήνουν και μια προσωπική χροιά και άποψη.
Μια πάρα-πολύ καλή προσπάθεια από ένα group που δυστυχώς διέλυσε. Ευτυχώς που τα κομμάτια κυκλοφόρησαν έστω και με αυτή τη μορφή αφού θα ήταν κρίμα να χαθούν και αυτά με τη σειρά τους όπως τόσον άλλων συγκροτημάτων.
Το cd-r θα καεί σε 200 κόπιες και θα μοιράζεται χέρι-χέρι, χωρίς αντίτιμο σε καταλήψεις, στέκια, πλατείες, ανάμεσα σε φίλους και γενικότερα με όλους τους τρόπους που ανταγωνίζονται το θέαμα και το κέρδος.
Βάλτε ένα ποτήρι κόκκινο-κρασί, και τσεκάρετε την “ύπαρξη της μη-ζωής”.

Raw nerves - Murderers among us 7'' & demo

First of all, hope you like the new shape of the blog.
Secondly it has been a while and since the world cup started yesterday i think it's time for some refresh...

Some time ago, in the wanting list - on your right - i had a band named Raw Nerves from portland, oregon (don't be confused with Raw nerve from chicago). So, a guy named erik contacted me and finally send me Raw nerves's demo and seveninch. Why i'm bullshitting like this? Some days before i was in a forum asking for the new raw nerves 7'' (named "we must be dreaming") and guess what. Some band member replied back, his name was erik!
When i asked him if he was the great guy that has sent me raw nerves candy he said : "yep, i wasnt trying to make it a secret, but i guess maybe i didnt mention that. haha"
Once more the communication with bands and places is so fucking wonderful. So all the cheers of the world goes to Erik (besides drummer of raw nerves, the man is the guitarist of Exit collapse and used to play drums in Protest stagnation. Fucking portland guys! They are everywhere.)

Now, raw nerves is a terrific hardcore band mixing their anger with very dark melodies and desperate drums. Heavy political hardcore but not in the usual forms that portland use to offer. I have read on the net the comparison with bands like Bury the living (BTL are way more fast) or acts of sedition. Now for me, i can't find the connections with bands, not that raw nerves are so unique but they have a tight and blistering sound that i love. The drums are so fucking solid that fill negativity and power to the whole recording while the bass is distorted enough to drop-down a wall. Add matt svendsen's howls and screams (Squalora's, The Anti Difrancos's etc fame) reminds me a lot, vocals-style of great bands like Iron hand and Oiltanker. The demo has seven tracks, the four of them have different mastering and released as "Murderers among us" 7''.
Except the new ep, they're gonna release a full lenght lp some day soon, so stay tuned. And as the fucking MRR magazine wrote : "certainly the ingredients on this EP could easily equal a fucking killer live show. Especially in a basement. Especially if it were really hot. And especially if there was beer."

Spain : a country well-known around the world for awesome dishes and food reserves, barcelona fc and zara clothes. As for the hardcore community, spain is worshiped as the motherland of the modern, pessimistic and catchy as hell, tragedy / from ashes rise influenced crust (don't start throw rocks on me, i know that great bands like otan or destino final are from there too), bands like Madame germen, Ictus, Leadershit and so much more made this genre so popular inside punk community. I'll get to the point.

Some days before moro (guitarist of Inu) contacted the blog and asked, if i can, to post their brand new five tracks from their upcoming split with indonesia's Kroia. After some e-mail exchanges, here we are...

As a big japcore fan i couldn't say no to a truly great band as Inu really is. Hailing from the northwest of spain, la coruna to be more specific, the guys that fuels the engine of Inu have been playing in some other bands also. Blunt (great crust band, check some stuff here and here), Codia (old-school hardcore punk), Noitebrega (black metal), Kephra (post-metal) are some of the them.

Moro has sent me also the lyrics, that deals with personal issues mainly but also with some politics. Now, as far the sounds that will come out of your speakers. Well, you must go and buy some new ones 'coz Inu certainly will burn' em out even if you're gonna play it on 0 decibel. Full DEATH SIDE maniacs here. era : With the first riff "All is here now" comes to mind in a physical way. Crazy, driven by demons Chelsea's riffage, crude drumming and judgement feeling (almost forgotten : add some Iron maiden for the flavour and for satan's sake)... Yeah, Inu rocks really hard. Imagine a torch-holding army marching to the deepest of all hells and you may catch the feeling. The sound is more than decent, counting that the band has recorded all tracks by themselves in their practice-room (that's how DIY recordings must be).
Hope you like them... Cook some extra spicy vegeterian paella, grab a cold glass of sangria and enjoy.

Naytia - European regeneration LP

This one maybe is already everywhere in the net, but it's not on my blog, so shut up and read carefully (and then listen carefully).
Naytia was the best band ever came outta greece (at least for my own taste). From the ashes of the band aganaktismenoi polites (indignant citizens) these four guys (or three guys and a girl, if you prefer it better) accomplished to create one of the most solid and ear-destroying sounds ever to be named in the tiny geographical limits of the shithole of greece...
The band's first release was a demo back in '88 (six tracks, with two great songs that never released on vinyl). After that, another demo (again with six tracks) and a european tour with chaos u.k with their set in oslo, norway to be released as a tape with the occult title "sex, drugs and greek salad". After that the band released this lp that the majority of the fans consider it their best release. Finally in 1994 a split lp with Graue zellen from germany. They participated in many tape compilations in greece as much as in the famous Whispers double lp (here and here).
So, now that we ended the history lesson let's get to the meat...

April '92 and the greek label Athanati ellhnikh leventia (trans. Immortal greek manliness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), the band's own label releases the lp Europaiki anagennisi (European regeneration). Label's name can be faced as a joke and an ironic description of what greeks think for theirselves.
Mixing the greek punk sound (or the primal-hardcore) of the early 80's scene with european thrash (you can defenetely can listen the Destruction guitar scratching) alongside with great political lyrics that have over-exceed the boring (or surface "touched") punk themes the band made a whole music genre to start thinking more seriously issues like modern-daily life or how the diy thing must "run". Naytia alongside Anasa stahti (Ashen breath) were the first bands that had some political opinions about why a band must-not play in major commercial events, clubs or pubs that others make profit of them. The played mainly in squats and social centres and sold their albums at the price of the cost.

Lyrics referred to topics such as : army, school, the exploitation of animals, jailsystem, human dignity, solidarity and more. The drums are like a machine gun turned onto you while the bass is distorted and heavy and the guitars throw some trully apocalyptic riffs, as for the dual male / female vocals, they work terryfic. The artwork has been made by maria-elektra (r.i.p). i know that i'll go on and on and on if i continue so....
One of the best greek hardcore punk releases ever!

A long time now i had this feeling, wake-up, the same old-shit, life get ruined by routine. Ok, no more... And the perfect way to overthrow it - if you don't like rihanna's voice - is by far to put on your turntable some good old Motorhead ('till Ace of spades era) and to start shouting some Lemmy's lyrics like "the riders wearing black" etc... Right? Well, no absolutely 'coz the boys are back in town..

As the summer shows it's teryfying heat and your body keep-on asking for some cold lemonade with pure communist rum, the best soundtrack is BURNING LEATHER!

I have to say some things about Slowmotions, so... Tokyo, japan and neither japcore, nor crust.. What the hell? Up-tempo, well-played punk rock by guys that have already released five seveninches.. Good though.

Now let's get to the point : Burning leather.
Imagine some punks (way over thirty years old) that have eaten the road with a spoon over the years and after one million bands they decided to play simple ass-kicking motorhead's punk''n'roll. Including Steve Harris of diy hardcore aka mr. Kelly Haliburton (Defiance, Detestation, Resist, Severed head of state, Pierced arrows and a hell lot more) on bass-guitar, Brian Hopper (hellshock, atrocious madness etc) on guitar, Marty pants of Nux Vomica on drums, Jason roberts (Fall of the bastards etc) on vocals and Scot gotto (also fall of the bastards) on guitar you know that here lies an All-star line-up that isn't as an All-star shit only in the papers. Hell right. Include as a wasted info that chris carrey of poison idea used to play here also, you get the picture...

I was seeking as hell who the fuck wrote the song "the guns come running" 'coz has that smell of 70's texas bar before some serious fights between some rednecks but the only result i got back was Burning leather. So, if you wanna hear some tracks that motorhead chop-off on the "Overkill" sessions check burning leather. One of the best Portland acts for my humble opinion. Metal Punk'n'Roll up your fucking ass, mothafukkkka!!

Despite everything is hardcore punk band from athens, greece featuring former (or current) members of bands globally known as 925, nekra katsikia trikavalo, schwartz and anger, endsight and censored sound.
Heavily influenced by the us punk rock scene (fucking boring) they have accomplished to refresh a sound, more or less, trivial. Mixing it with stuff like strike anywhere and late-Propagandhi the band has made it. Angry vocals, beautiful lyrics and up-tempo "hard"core music. Great live acts as the "too-tough-judge-Dredd" Dbill agreed in the past. Even if you don't like this type of music they are so uplifting and catchy that you'll defenetily shake your right leg for sure.. Even if i am jealous about how girls look at Peyio i must declare that the band "has it", the "it" for enthousiasm and love for what they're doing. Don't miss them live if you got the chance.
Maybe my description is a little bit misleading but these two seveninches are damn good. Being obsessed for some time now, i choose to post them 'coz the band had them already posted in their myasspace.
They toured for over a month in europe so the band is tight and this is reflected on the wax.
Also the track "prison" is not included in the vinyl version so this is a "plus".
the seveninches comes in recycled paper, has been printed by the band itself with great sepia inks so don't be fool...

Desolation - Rest in panic 7'' (2010)

This is a brand new release and maybe it's a fucked up thing to post it.
I suspect that prank records will ask me to remove it, so if you are "in time" you'll get it.

Desolation is a hardcore / crust band from bay-area. Although, they have released a split with audio kollaps, a self titled lp (that contains a great nausea cover) and a seveninch, i can say that they weren't "the hell of a band" in my ears. A little bit boring, a little bit "i've heard it all before". Even if i expected a lot more from a member of Born/Dead (a band that i love and their guitarist plays here).

But this seveninch it's blistering, fucking great and enormous destroyer for sure. As the band woke-up from hibernation with a new vocalist, this three-track ep is by far their best release and it's damn good. Great d-beat thrash by members of Born/Dead, Scurvy dogs, Abrupt and Strung up. Throw some japanese influences (mainly from the crust side of japan alongside "burning-spirit" excellent drumming). I wouldn't post something so fast after the great Constant state of terror - demo, if it wasn't equally great.

Grab a cold beer and make some headbanging. Did i mentioned the great Vocals? Killer..

This is another fucked-up day. Everything goes from shit to more shit, nerves are in "red allert", mind is bleeding from tediousness and boredom.
I don't know, it's just the spring or i'm getting old before my time?
As i had to go out to make a walk to calm down, i'm loading in my mp3-player some good (or not so-good) demos to hear. One of them i wanna share with you guys.

Constant state of Terror are a DIY hardcore band from Brighton, uk. This demo has been recorded in november of 2005 and released in 2006. The band has formed in 2004 so the tracks included are the "first" band's attempt. Heavy political hardcore crust as the uk produces over the years. Solid drums, heavy bass, guitars schissoring and angry, clear vocals by members of Substandard, Vulcan death grip, MTA, Combat shock and Seven arrows in your bastard heart. Mid-temo to a little bit faster d-beat with great riffs. A mixture of Antisect, amebix, discharge and the likes. Black, black, black fellings by old-school crusties.

I have included a text with the lyrics so you can judge for your own, but as a political uk crust band you'll get topics as personal relationships, the war on terror or the war in general, fucking work and the rest. You should defenetely look at the lyrics, they deserve your time. Plus they gonna release a full-lenght lp some day soon, as they have released a 7'' called "Liberation" On Inflammable Material Records and Squawk Records.

Tetsu arrey - discography part 2

After some time this is the second and last part of Tetsu arrey's discography.
I have write some lines in first part, so i'll keep it simple (add that i'm feeling a bit bored so you get the picture).

Tetsu arrey (or tetsu array if you wish...) is a legend band from tokyo, japan. As a part of the (in)famous vinyl comp. "eyes of the thrash guerilla", Iron dumbbell (as the band's name translation is) continue the delivering of raging, pissed-off hardcore with rock elements and metallic edge. For me just motorhead playing japcore. But foe some other guy : "these guys are as punked out as they get, but it's the way they combine typically catchy street-punk screamalongs with Sabbath-esque guitar sludge that gives them an edge up on the competition". I think they have some connection with the band Extinct government.

Here you'll get their second album, their mini-lp "14all" (note that this one was released back in 2000 and not 2003 as the folder says) and the rocket / core 7''.

2 : 20 - Self titled 12'' Lp

Long time ago, i wanted to post this norway's piece of sweat, i don't know why i didn't do it 'till now, but as people use to say "better later than never".
2 : 20 was a band active from 2004 - 2008, who their members have paricipated less or more in other well-known non-blackmetal bands from motherland of black metal. To name a few : boyeng beng, Life... but how to live it?, dead gerhardnes and captain not responsible. They have released this 12'' lp and a seveninch called "God natt til alle barna", both released from On Sjakk Matt Plater records.

The music magic can be described as the majority of colours that punk-rock can create. Beautiful solid drums gives the up-tempo feeling while bass-lines are fast and clear opening perfectly the way for the guitar and the vocals to reserve the main dish. More on the punk-rock side than clearly hardcore, this old wolves gives me a "this is how it's gonna be..." impression. Continuing the legacy of melodic hardcore punk origins of norway (now, that i'm re-thinking it, they are-not "continuing" 'coz these guys, each one of them played a part in creating it in the first place) like other great bands such as Toamol, I.O.U and the rest and they defenetely now how to do it.

For a weird reason i'm in love with the vocals, maybe of the ugly, beer stinking sound-lands that Tor Idar creates in my mind. If you are not too tough for hearing it - i mean if you can listen different things, from pop-punk to power-violence - you gonna worship them.
2 : 20 members nowadays can be found on Knuste Ruter and DANGER!MAN.

The assasinators - Sigt efter hjertet & 7''

After a while, i'm going back to the k-town posts.

When we started the k-town series i was thinking assasinators as the first band. While dbill doesn't like them or enjoy them so much, we didn't make that post until now.

The assasinators is a hardcore punk or punk rock - say it as you like - band that have released some of the most catchy punk tunes. With lyrics about social themes, social struggles and our passion for revolution and anarchy, i can say that they are "militant" in the way they approach themes lyrically (and one of the main reasons i like them so much).

Former members of Paragraf 119, they have started the band in the dawn of 2006, in the rehearsing rooms of Ungdomshuset. I don't have to say much, here you'll get their ep from 2006 and the "sigt efter hjertet" lp from 2008. Melodic and catchy punk rock, up-tempo with acidic vocals. As Batguano once stated : "This Danish band gets compared to La Fraction excessively, so in my pessimism I figured they sound like nothing of the sort. They actually do, though, with some mixed in accents of other melodic European hardcore bands like Inner Conflict and Post Regiment. The band departs from the La Fraction mould with their less stylized lead vocals, more pronounced harmonies, and a layer of somberness that gets me all excited. The pop sensibilities and melody will compel you to spin this thing over and over, but there's enough punk grit to keep your crust-credentials intact."

Rumours about disbanding may be true, but before that they will release a split 7'' with japan's D.S.B.

Thou & Mohorram atta - split Lp

A few weeks back, i uploaded some mohorram atta's stuff in my account to post in the blog. While today i was making the usual google-search for band-infos (citys, former bands and the rest fuck-ups that bloggers do) i found out that Thou is one hell of a band. And i don't mean in the music making, but much more in the lyrics / artwork thing. Plus : with the download you'll get a gift. mohorram atta's "desolate motherfuckers" 7''.

Let's take it step by step.
Mohorram atta is a crust / hardcore band from santa cruz, california including three guitarists, so you can imagine how heavy is their sound. They have released a demo (that is totally mind-blowing and maybe their best release - more in the tragedy / cursed vein) and "Weight of existence" (both self-released). Some of the guys also plays in santa cruz's crusties Fell voices.
Their side on this split are more on mid-tempo, in comparison with their earlier releases. The influences from tragedy and cursed are more than obvious (they remind me chris colohan but no clone-thing, also some well-hidden Entombed for me). They have put more black metal into songs, mainly the feeling, the cold, freezing and desperate emotions of black metal. They are melodic but they rule, if you liked Iron hand you'll dig them as well.

B side : THOU! thou is a sludge / core band from Luisiana. What is amazing about this band? Well, these fuckers have written some of the best lyrics lately. Check their page here and you'll see.
Their music is heavy as hell sludge, but the interesting thing is that they have kept all the punk influences (and playing) not hidden. If you already love the "Tyrant" lp you must know that this one is more up-tempo madness. Like some gloomy mental clinic patients found out the joy of life! and that's for sure the case.
Don't except iron maiden leeds and dio's vocals. This is shit, this is down to hell, ugly and against you... Thou!
I don't know what else to say, so download this split and then search and buy all their releases (including mohorram's releases). CHECK THE LYRICS!!! (the track "don't hate" is called "don't vote". sorry, for the mistake)
Almost forgotten : If you want to hear some mongoloids to pay u.s hardcore in a d-beat punk form... Thou covers minor threat's "screaming at a wall"!!!
Go fuck yourself now.

Iron hand - Demo 2008

Some months ago i made a trade with rawter (troubles on your system blog). I sent him the split antimob / burial and he sent me iron hand's first (and only) demo cassette.
What a weeling to release a demo-cassette in the devastating year 2008. This is dedication.

Iron hand are from connecticut, and they have some members from the band They and the children.
In this demo you'll find one of the more solid and out-breaking releases of the last years. You can say that they play heavy political hardcore full of (neo-)crust influences. But i know that my description is too "general" so, let's make it more "specific".

The band's influences seems to be the old-school swedish crusties like anti-cimex or skitsystem. Put some awesome guitar riffs mixing tragedy with japanese hardcore and brilliant drum parts (d-beatish but not the usual boring crap, something like from ashes rise-meets-victims). The band itself mentions Poison idea as influence, but i don't find any connection except that poison idea rules (feel the darkness album is on top-5). I could say that the whole sound makes you wanna headbang really hard. Add the dual vocals, shouting / screaming stuff like the old days, his hero is gone's "monuments to thieves" era and you have IRON HAND!

Hope that this band will make a proper vinyl release (a lp or a 12'') some day soon 'coz the guys rule!
Alongside hammers and masakari, iron hand is the best crust/core (or neo-) band that i have heard lately.

This one is dedicated to rawter.. He runs one of the best blogs, and i wish it's not dead. Rawter we miss you, man. Take your time and CHEERS.

For the tragic death of three people after bank's arson

Yesterday's demonstration was the biggest one, that greece ever saw after the dictatorship of 67-74. Over 200.000 people marched on the streets against the new economical metres and the capitalist system in general. You could see people over 50's to throw rocks, with a menace in their eyes. Older women to encourage protesters and stuff. Molotov cocktails to "flying" again and again, against the fucking cops in a "battle" that lasted over 4 hours. While the riots continued, some guys throw some molotov's in the marfin egnatia bank at the stadiou street. Sadly, the bank wasn't empty from people but obviously the guys didn't know that. Three persons died because of the fumes. Through this tragedic inciddent the media and their (capitalist) bosses found their "enemy". Once again the anarchists and the radicals in general appears as monsters and murderers. Modern day witch-hunt.
No one from that thugs had the hardihood to say that the only responsibble for this tragedy was the manager of the Marfin egnatia bank who blackmailed the employess that if they go to strike they would be fired! I can't describe it better, so here is a column by the Skaramanga squat. Hope that will enlight things :

The enormous strike demonstration which took place today, 5th of May turned into a social outflow of rage. At least 200,000 people of all ages took to the streets (employees and unemployed, in the public and private sector, locals and migrants) attempting, over many hours and in consecutive waves, to surround and to take over the Parliament. The forces of repression came out in full force, to play their familiar role – that is, of the protection of the political and financial authorities. The clashes were hours long and extensive. The political system and its institutions reached a nadir.
However, in the midst of all this, a tragic event that no words can possibly describe took place: 3 people died from infusions at the branch of Marfin Bank on Stadiou Avenue, which was set ablaze.
The state and the entire journalistic riff-raff, without any shame toward the dead or their close ones, spoke from the very first moment about some “murderer-hooded up youths”, trying to take advantage of the event, in order to calm the wave of social rage that had erupted and to recover their authority that had been torn apart; to impose once again a police occupation of the streets, to wipe out sources of social resistance and disobedience against state terrorism and capitalist barbarity. For this reason, during the last few hours the police forces have been marching through the center of Athens, they have conducted hundreds of detentions and they raided – with shootings and stun-grenades – the anarchist occupation “space of united multiform action” on Zaimi street and the “migrant haunt” on Tsamadou Street, causing extensive damage (both these places are in the Exarcheia neighbourhood of Athens). At the same time the threat of a violent police eviction is hanging over the rest of the self-organised spaces (occupations and haunts) after the Prime-ministerial speech which referred to soon-to-come raids for the arrest of the “murderers”.
The governors, governmental officials, their political personnel, the TV-mouthpieces and the salaried hack writers attempt in this way to purify their regime and the criminalise the anarchists and every unpatronised voice of struggle. As if there would ever be the slightest of chances that whoever attacked the bank (provided the official scenario stands) would possibly know there were people inside, and that they would torch it alight regardless. They seem to confuse the people in struggle for themselves: them who without any hesitation hand over the entire society to the deepest pillage and enslaving, who order their praetorians to attack without hesitation and to aim and shoot to kill, them who have lead three people to suicide in the past week alone, due to financial debts.
The truth is that the real murderer, the real instigator of today’s tragic death of 3 people is “mister” Vgenopoulos, who used the usual employers’ blackmailing (the threat of sacking) and forced his employees to work in the branches of his bank during a day of strike – and even in a branch like the one of Stadiou Avenue, where the strike’s demonstration would pass through. Such blackmailing is known only too well by anyone experiencing the terrorism of salaried slavery on an everyday level. We are awaiting to see what excuses Vgenopoulos will come up with for the relatives of the victims and for the society as a whole – this ultra-capitalist now hinted by some centers of power as the next prime minister in a future “national unity government” that could follow the expected, complete collapse of the political system.
If an unprecedented strike can ever be a murderer…
If an unprecedented demonstration, in an unprecedented crisis, can ever be a murderer…
If open social spaces that are alive and public can ever be murderers…
If the state can impose a curfew and attack demonstrators under the pretext of arresting murderers…
If Vgenopoulos can detain his employees inside a bank – that is, a primary social enemy and target for demonstrators…
…it is because authority, this serial murderer, wants to slaughter upon its birth a revolt which questions the supposed solution of an even harsher attack on society, of an even larger pillage by capital, of an even thirstier sucking of our blood.
…it is because the future of the revolt does not include politicians and bosses, police and mass media.
… it is because behind their much-advertised “only” solution, there is a solution that does not speak of development rates and unemployment but rather, it speaks of solidarity, self-organising and human relationships.
When asking who are the murderers of life, of freedom, of dignity, the ferments of authority and capital, they and their tuft hunters only need to take a look at their own selves. Today and every day.
